I had a few difficulties getting my saucer edge to look right. This is just a small update showing how I got things to look acceptable so I can continue to move forward. I didn't mention this, but I've also started prepping the warp nacelles. They'll be in a future video.

It took me all day to catch up on your build. Looking really awesome. I wish I would have seen these before I got as far as I have on my build.

I do have a question. Why do you use silver paint to do some of the light blocking? Also.. what kind of primer are you using? I used a ton of primer to block my light leaks and basically ruined my saucer because it got so thick.

Thanks! It was an unbelievable pain to get it looking at least halfway decent. I'm looking forward to moving past it! Thanks for watching!

Matt, what was your solution for the rec room windows? I'm encountering the same issue in that I have the rec room installed using clear plastic (from a bubble package) rather than the kit windows. Can't quite figure out how to mask that area now.Otherwise, yours is looking great! Waiting for the next ones, especially the decal episode.

one might use Elmer's white glue as a mask. Boyd from Trek Works channel does this. Once paint is done you just take out the elmer's glue from the window. With my build I am going to try tooth picks for the round windows. The elongated round windows are a different story.

I wound up cutting masking tape to fit. I would have used Elmer's Glue, but I didn't use hard plastic for the window. I used some thick flexible plastic wrap stuff that was around an Apple product's box. It worked really really well, but it's hard to mask it. The masking tape that I cut was slightly oversized so it didn't stick directly to it. I was able to spray with no issues. In fact, I get to do it again for clear coat! Good idea with the elmer's glue. I'm actually planning to do that for the warp chiller grills. It's a great way to mask those off for paint. Wish me luck when I get there!

@@mattsmodelshop You do not need luck for your build. It will be great. If one does not want to cut out their own masks oribitaldrydock.com makes a complete set of masks to cover all the port holes, chiller grills, etc. It is about $11.

I've seen other videos where the builder will use small pieces of cotton balls and fill in places where they don't want paint. however, the Elmer's Glue idea sounds interesting. Maybe I'll give it a try.

@@darylw792 I have a clear parts mask set from hdamodelworx, but the material that I used for my windows in the rec deck aren't great for putting masks on. it's a little flexible, and may tear. That's why I used oversized masks cut from masking tape. I don't have to adhere it directly to the windows, just stick it in and keep clear coat from getting on it. You can REALLY see in there, though! Thanks for the kind words!
