Polar Lights 1/350 Scale Enterprise Refit Buildup PT 13 - Aztec's and The Deflector

In this segment I've resumed working on the aztec panels. I have worked out a good method using water only and just painting a few panels at a time so the mask does not begin to bond permanently. I am moving along very well with them now.
Next I did some testing of the Tenacontrols deflector effect board. It only took a few minutes to solder it up and then I mounted the bipolar LED included with the kit in the deflector housing. I'm very pleased with with how it looks and works. The grey paint I applied on the dish lens worked great and diffused the light just right. It glows perfect with now glare on the eyes when looking at it.
In the next video of the series I will be testing the photon firing effect board also from Tenacontrols and starting on some of the assembly work. Meanwhile, I'll be masking aztecs....

Hello, Thank you Boyd for your great work! I have watched several of your projects and all of them have been impressive. I was a modeler years ago (about 20 years ago). I did mostly Star trek stuff with some lighting. It is a whole new game now! You have inspired me to get back into it with perhaps my own 1/350 Refit... Thanks again Trekworks...

I am so glad the Aztec worked out o.k. I felt so bad for you. The dish lighting up is fantastic. I wish you could set it up so it would automatically switch between amber and blue by it self. Have amber on for 5-10 seconds then switch to blue for 5-10 seconds. Great work Boyd.

Thanks for the words of support on the aztec work. It's good to be moving ahead again. Actually, I plan on wiring the little thruster banks on the model to come on when the amber lighting come on in the dish. That is supposed to be when she is stationary.

At least the Aztec detail is coming out right for you this time. The selector dish looks awesome going from the amber color to blue color. I work with cameras all of the time and it is the CCD in the camera that isn't timed with the transition from amber to blue.

Great Job Boyd on recovering from the aztec disaster. Truly inspirational for all modelers who have run into a setback and felt like packing it in. The sensor lights look great! Can we get a break down on what the cost of the total electronic suite is to outfit the Enterprise after it's completed? A rough idea is fine.

Looking good Boyd. I'm glad you managed to sort out the Aztec Dummy problem and I have to say the effect is gorgeous. Being across the pond is problematic for getting hold of the pearlescent paints. What brand do you use? Your build is giving me plenty of ideas as to how to approach my own Refit. Loving the deflector effect too. Many thanks and keep 'em coming.

There will be a total of 4 different pearls used on the model besides the white base coat. Blue, Gold, Red, and Green. These were used on the original studio model of the Refit Enterprise in STTMP. They were later dulled way down due to camera interference issues during filming. If you look around on the net for pictures of the original, you'll see how it really looked and it is what I'm going for.

Hi Boyd, About the switch... I have the same ones from T.C. does it matter which side is Neg and Pos when wiring?

It is standard acrylic urethane pearlescent paint.

So no soap this time, and it seems like the vynil doesn't bond so hard. Very interesting. However, I would like to know, is it just about as easy to position them with just the water?

Boyd, is the pearl that you are using, does it come as a powder, and then mixed. Or is it in liquid form already?

Not quite as easy with just water but not bad. I found that if I apply only about 2-3 panels worth and then stop and spray, they come off very easily. Any more than that amount of time they begin to set and it could be harder to get them back off.

What colors did you use for your aztecing? I planed to use flat white and gloss pearl white. Just so you can tell the difference in the panels as the light hits it. Yours looks like you used a gold tint and a blue tint, or is that just the pearl effect in the camera? Glad you got the masks to work, I'll have to remember that and just plan on it taking a few weeks to get painted! Lookin' good!

Trekworks...i really need your help. im a beginner modeler and i want to learn how to use aztec masks for a 350 scale refit like yours. i saw how you applied the decals in the last video...but afterwards...how and what do you mask and paint? also what colors to make the color difference on the aztec?
