Mine arrived this Monday night, paired the watch and upgraded the firmware, charged it to 100% and went to sleep with the watch on. Right now Thursday at noon I've been using it everyday, tracking continuous HR, been tracking sleep and did 2 cycling activities of around 1h length each and the watch is @63%. Looks like I'll get to Sunday without charging it again. Maybe the firmware update improved "iddle" smartwatch battery consumption, but so far battery has been pretty good.

@@Asthbendrielhow are you finding the m2?
@Asthbendriel3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this! After watching this review I recently bought the M2, been using it for 4 days so far (nightly recharge just started giving feedback today) and so far I'm loving it! Screen is great outdoors and I've find the HR to be quite accurate with the sensations I'm having while cycling (the moment I start heavy breathing and requiring more effort to keep the pace is the exact same moment when the watch transitions from zone 4 to zone 5), it's also great for MTB as the watch is is very lightweight and having less inertia because of it, it doesn't bounce much when you're going through rough terrain compared with heavier watches I've used before (maybe that's helping you on the HR readings while MTB) The only thing I'd like is the display to be slightly more visible indoors, to be able to turn notifications on while recording a workout and an option to find my phone as I'm a very clumsy person 😅 but none of those are deal breakers and battery life, the data it delivers and how visible the display is outdoors completely outweigh those things (would be cool if polar released them via a firmware update, although very unlikely hehe)
@robakooo962 жыл бұрын
Hi. About the screen. Is it like You generally notice that little lack of brightness of the screen or is it not noticable after You get used to it? I mean, does it create the feeling that ehmm maybe another watch would be better, I am not quite happy... or You know just forgetting about it. Cheers.
@Asthbendriel2 жыл бұрын
@@robakooo96 hello, first a disclaimer: this is my first sports watch I own, I had previously owned some smart bands and smart watches, but those use AMOLED and the display technology is so much different. That being said, the initial transition from AMOLED to transflective was hard at first, but I got used to it after one week of usage. Regarding the display brightness, every transflective display is dimmer than an AMOLED indoors, but I've noticed Garmin ones are slightly brighter, then again, how dim it is will depend on your lighting conditions and that will influence in how much of a hassle it becomes to you, right now I'm at the office and I can see the display without moving my wrist while writing and without needing the backlight to turn on, but I've seen sometimes when you're moving in an open area with a roof covering you and no direct sunlight, the display can become almost unreadable unless you activate the backlight, in my case these scenarios are very scarce though. Can you notice it? Under the right circumstances you will. Is it too annoying to wish you had another watch? In my case is not, I'm still happy with my purchase and all the benefits I got from this watch. On the outdoor side of things, the display works pretty well, it's very visible and easy to read on direct sunlight and even moving between trees as long as the foliage allows some light to slip through, the only moments when it's not visible enough is as you expect, in the hours when the re's still time to sunrise or the hours right before the sunset, when the light is scarce, but even on those situations I've found the wrist gesture to work fine and the brightness of the backlight enough to see the display data. Do bear in mind that I have a good sight (I've heard some people struggling with the display visibility) and my unit shows a visible light blue tint when the backlight turns on and this can be annoying for some people, but I've also seen some Garmins having this issue and people telling is pure luck on the provider of the display, so I guess it an be a common thing in this kind of displays. Please let me know if you need any more information about it, it's a pricey choice for many people and any feedback I can give you to make the best choice for you I'd be happy to help with it.

Would you recommend the Polar Vantage M2 over Garmin 245 and Coros Pace 2? I’m contemplating between these devices
@DesFit3 жыл бұрын
The M2 has the best sleep tracking and I think the design is quite nice. The 245 and Pace 2 are smaller though which from a fitness perspective tend to work better for HR. GPS is similar between the devices but the Pace 2 may have a slight edge there but the digital crown on the Pace 2 is personally challenging to use. Excellent review. I just replaced my three year old Vantage M (the back button stopped working) with an M2 because apparently Polar will not repair past the two year warranty, only replace if in warranty, or offer a discount on a new product if you are outside warranty. Does the M2 have a battery % display or does that just appear when the percentage gets low?
@peterullinger28143 жыл бұрын
I just tested the V2 for myself. It is an awesome watch with a very nice design, beating Garmin when it comes to make sense out of the collected data. I was very, VERY tempted to make the switch after 5 years on Garmin. It nevertheless went back to the retailer as it does not have ANY safety features like Incident Detection (on my last test run, I went running with my brother who fell and hurt his shoulder. Not badly, but still enough that I had to drive him home. His Apple Watch fired up a message to me.) and Live Track. I have peace of mind knowing that my Forerunner 745 will alarm others when something happens while running or biking alone. I would have needed that a few years ago on m Forerunner 645, before it got that feature via a firmware update, when I broke my arm on a run 5 kilometers away from home. The same thoughts are to be had about the M2, unfortunately. Come on, Polar, implement that and you´ll see me in a heart beat on your platform!

HR is pretty good on this device. Just note that this watch cannot pair with ANT+ power meters or other sensors so if you have a power meter that can collect advanced cycling dynamics, those are generally transmitted over ANT+. Thanks!
@craighoward98022 жыл бұрын
@@DesFit I took advantage of a NewYear offer with 15% off the M2. I also bought the H10 so that it can transmit heartrate to both the watch and my Wahoo Element while road cycling. My bike power meters are 4iii and Stages and both these devices transmit power over ANT+ and Bluetooth. I've been slowly converting from ANT+ over the years as I find the protocol a little bit flakey/susceptible to interference and not as stable as Bluetooth. Now I'm all Bluetooth. With all of this, I should have the best accuracy possible when seriously training along with the optical HR for day to day stuff like walking and all data (inc sleep!) recording to the Polar app. This may mean I won't need Strava Premium for data analysis if it all tracks as planned.

Although the V has been out for quite some time, it has some nice features to it such as an altimeter and running power from the wrist. However, the watch straps are proprietary on the V, it’s a bit larger and heavier, and it doesn’t have the music controls, weekly training view, and weather widget. Been eyeballing this watch. And my biggest concern was the gps. Seems pretty accurate. In my experience all gps watches usually have areas where they are a bit off but I think that’s to be expected. I have a Garmin Fenix3 (old school and still kicking ass) but looking for something better for HIIT etc. I do have a question... I recently bought and have been using the Polar OH1. This seems to be much more accurate than the wrist HR on the Garmin. When used with the Polar watch, does it override the wrist monitor or does it record at the same time and give you two different readings??
@DesFit3 жыл бұрын
With most watches pairing an external sensor generally overrides and turns off the wrist OHR. This watch is lighter and smaller than the 3HR which should help it collect more accurate wrist HR. Heavier and larger watches tend to bounce around more which can throw off accuracy.

the main differences are the V2 have more tests , Komoot navigation , better indoor visibility and ~10h extra on GPS recording. Heart rate is slightly different, but I've found the one on the M2 to be quite reliable for being a wrist based HRM. I have a vantage M2 and whereas indoor visibility is indeed dim is still visible and not a deal breaker for me, especially considering the price difference. If you don't need the Komoot navigation or the extra tests or the extra battery life, the M2 can save you quite an amount of money. In my case I have a dedicated bike computer for navigation, so the M2 was a no brainer. I got mine this past Monday, charged it to 100% after updating the firmware and syncing the watch, I have no power saving options and after 2 GPS activities around 1h each as of now the watch is still @63% at the moment (I think the May firmware update maybe improved smartwatch battery consumption) looks like I can comfortably do tomorrow's 1h ride and maybe my Sunday 6h+ ride before I need to charge it, time will tell but so far I really like battery life and performance so far.

Dumped Polar for Garmin after 20 years. Would not give Polar another penny of my money. Bet they stop software updates after just two years, bet the software is buggy as crap, bet the display is just as dull as the original. Take my advise get the Garmin 745, thank me later.

Isn't the 745 like... $200, $250 more than M2? I had the 45s, which I hated it, then 245 giving Garmin another chance, and it was OK, but the calorie accuracy, which for me is essential (knowing there's a margin of error in any watch) was pretty damn off compared to Polar, using of course an H10 as benchmark. I agree tho, Polar needs to upgrade those screens and the UI and UX ASAP, including the Flow. Loved how the Connect looked, but it was too much at times.

@@disco.lemonade true the calorie calculation can vary wildly (with any product) since it’s based on look up tables. So if the wrist accuracy is bad the calories will be bad. The H10, taking nothing away from Polar is the benchmark (even DC Rainmaker says that), will no doubt be the best way to measure and track you calories.

I'm sorry but the hardware design on this , with that UI and all is so bad .. I like your videos though - keep it up.

Would you go for this one, or the gbd h1000 from Casio? Only for Running purposes.
@DesFit3 жыл бұрын
The M2. Lots more in the feedback department, it has sleep tracking, and it’s also much lighter. A big issue for me with the Casio was the shear size and weight. Most times it was so big it was uncomfortable to wear.
