I just hope they have an option with the RAMPs to just have an option to open the doors WITHOUT the ramps extending. You don’t need ramps in space or if you land in a hostile area. It just needs 2 buttons. An easy fix to make it better.

Brilliant idea to have some form of snub craft in that rear engineering area, instead of all that wasted space there... regarding the coolant water floating away when gravity generator is off, perhaps the reason the ground there is using the cargo grid texture is because that keeps the liquid at ground level always. My biggest gripe with the Polaris is there is not one window of any kind on this ship, I get the torpedo submarine feel, but really could use some windows really anywhere.

In ww2 subs torpedos where aimed(bearing and depth set) and fired from the torpedo room. Today subs use various methods of computer aiming and can be launched from the bridge but still can be aimed and launched manually from the torp room. TO me this layout makes sense because the guy firing the torps is right there to see if they have more torps in the cargo hold and with the tractor beam he could reload himself if needed cutting down on the min number of crew to run the ship. Although it is weird for a military ship to not have a redundancy for firing the main armament

You guys hit so many of my peeves with this ship! Cargo lift>Ramps, Extra Torpedo loading steps, why can't launch them from bridge, behind hangar/engineering is a mess, no storage for food, tiny shuttle craft (parasite) for crew, and others. I hope they change this stuff, but there really isn't monetary incentive for them to once a ship is deemed complete. The carrack interior 'feels' so much more livable.
@danny19882213 күн бұрын
ok so about the pods. it's not a waste of space because the extra space in the hallway is to individually move aside while a crew is still running back and forth also an escape boat would also not make sense you are not evacuating civilians; the crew would be individual evacuations as stations are not needed or shut down gradually.

I think the reason they didn't go for an elevator cargo bay is that it would create a massive weak spot underbelly

As a sub guy, I can confirm that the torpedo room is where you load and fire the torpedo's. In control, they develop a firing solution and give the order. So it's fairly realistic in that sense. I do agree though, subs have a CO/XO Stateroom. It's odd that there is only a CO's room. The mess hall is also odd. We don't use chairs. We use benches, 100% what Ese mentioned.

The only reason i upgraded my Corsair all the way up to a Polaris, was simply because i wanted to be at the Pinnacle of the combat loop. I want to have a ship that will ALWAYS be relevant in ERT Bounty missions, one that can take on ships bigger than itself. A ship that can do a lot of things. It just ticks all of those boxes for me :)

having tons of ladders that are not enclosed will expose the entire ship to decompression by a single deck being breached, the armory is there because of game mechanics, is as far as the boarding points as possible to the defending players can keep control of the weapons until the last moment, thats also why it has so many bulkheads, to slow down boarding teams, but it needs more cameras and internal turrets

The height difference in the hanger is to contain fuel spills. Agree with all the points brought up
@codyfox28763 күн бұрын
The hangar doesn't have a "raised" edge. The edge is the same height as the main floor of the ship on that level. Instead, the middle section of the hangar is lowered, specifically to add more height so bigger ships can fit in it. When people are nitpicking this much it causes these kinds of oversights on what is clear design intention.

Was ESE army or something? I was 22 years Air Force and an aircraft maintainer (recently retired) and a lot of his points are off on the way military aircraft are designed. Maybe thats the way the Army crafts were done but Air Force wasn't and sometimes Naval craft as well but then again there could be some crafts that were like he was describing. I hate when people say "MILITARY" and think all the branches do and design things the same way. Like 34:10 where he is talking dual purpose vehicles and manufactures dont change design is wrong ( I work for Lockheed) and we change designs all the time not too much is reused, and benches vs chairs because you are fully kitted with gear, Ummm the Air Force doesn't use a lot of benches because we are not fully geared especially in an aircraft like that UNLESS that specific role for that vehicle requires it. The Polaris is not a transport troop dropper like that and people would not be running around the ship fully geared, there would be no purpose unless you were being boarded.

The point of the hologlobe station is so that this ship can be a flagship and host a fleet admiral (or equivalent strategic role), no? It's less equipped and capable than the C&C suite in the back of the Idris' bridge, sure, but we would want a variety of ships that can serve as flagships.

For the overly open spaces like the escape pods it feels like they were trying to make a movie set more than a functional ship. Plus the weird wastes of spaces that they put in in other areas like the stairs/elevators is another thing that can temporarily take me out of the game when I look at it. To me they could replace some of those places with some rooms that make sense on a ship like this. Put in a smaller version of the jump room that the Anvil Liberator has for example. Make it a life boat style escape pod too intended for any lawful guests that will be in the ship. Limit the size of armor that the seats will be able to use to limit scope creep of the ship. For the hangar, I appreciate that the vertical space is cutoff. I feel like it is a reasonable attempt to push towards fighters to be placed in the hangar. I think the only fighters that don't fit vertically are alien fighters. That makes logical sense. Its big enough for a hull-a to do your logistics in the hangar and I feel like if you want more at once it is reasonable to force you to have a larger ship park next to you and use the cargo doors.

In my understanding and the feel of this ship..it feels more like a command ship than the pitched "combat/blockade" ship. The nicer bunks, mess hall, etc all scream "officer gathering." Like this is the Admiral's ship and it's full of vetted commanders planning the battle for the Idris, Javelin, Hammerheads, etc. All of the accommodations are a step above the "grunt" level stuff. Essentially not a front-line ship, sits in the back surrounded by more combat-based ships and grunt ships. That being said, why the cargobay and ramp? They don't make sense with the rest of the ship unless it's for fleet resupply. The ship is designed to basically seem like it isn't meant to land planet-side.....except the ramps. The ramps are the only hint that it should land and not be a space-only vessel. Even the large bottom turret hints at orbital or sky bombardment cannon and contradicts the whole cargo/ramps layout. Also, was it just me or was execute very short and terse with everyone on this episode. Almost like he was irritated with everyone. Hope all is well man.

I disagree on one point, I absolutely think the Polaris is perfect as a generalist ship. The evil twin of the Odyssey if you want. I also think it's a perfect ship to take out alone if you are like me, someone with a single ship, Polaris is a SOLID contender, paired with whatever you want that fits in the hangar. I know that myPolaris is my Arcadia, my base, my home and everything in between. But this was a great video, keep up the good work guys!

@@inforunners most of the GDW space games have great design guidelines for spacecraft, something CIIG has been missing since day one, old in the early days many off us asked CIIG if they had one and if they would share it to the community, that never fgo answered, but over the years i became very clear there isn't one, things like component sizes not be consistent and other things that should be identical through all ships that isn't like you mentioned in this video about the elevator call panels. back in 2015 a few of us even made an basic design concept based of mass and size points per 1000 kg of mass (similar to how GDW limited what could be mounted to the ship by its mass) to allow for allocation of said points for hardpoints, component slots, cargo, fuel and crew stations, and as size off component slots and hardpoints increased they had an bell curve to their cost. We tested this out against a number of first release kickstarter ships and the figures worked.

Please consider the effects of armor being implemented and the Polaris only having the chin turret that can damage large armored ships. Also the fact that torps are only to finish already soft dead ships - Polaris is trash ultimately. Fun at the moment though.
@bolla9999999993 күн бұрын
Well it`s a patroll ship, it is not trash just because it fills a different role than a ship of the line. The whole point of the corvette program was to have a ship that could stay light on its feet and not having to take direct fights. And Idris is so slow that it has no choise other than brawl, but a Polaris can just say nop and leave.

@@bolla999999999 a patrol ship that only has 1 turret that can damage armored and large ships +? It is a very under armed and weak ship once armor and real combat vessels are introduced. @bolla9999999992 күн бұрын
@@andreasliveras6 Yes Patroll boats don`t generally have anti battleship/cruicer weapons except maybe missile and torpedos, the main weapon of a "corvette" is speed. (Even the older patroll boats would at most have a single 76MM cannon, and this is considdered highly impractical for its role today) Even having that dual size 6 is more than what was originally intended for the Polaris. It is armed for its role and function. If you want a slow gunboat then you can get the perseus, but you will not be able to pick your fights with that ship. I really don`t see your problem, the Polaris came out exactly like it was advertised. If you were expecting a brawler then that is on you for having unreasonable expectations.
