Mark had back surgery right before the snow season so it was just uncomfortable to sit for this race. Didn't really impact the outcome. Both sleds had high trail windshields anyways so they're not exactly set up for racing. This was just for fun and entertainment like our Timbersled vs Assault race last season.

Im thoroughly impressed with the new polaris matrix. Its the first one ive actally complimented. "THAT BEING SAID", at the end of the day, the 600 etec is still the envy of the whole industry! After that, its what fits your person as a rider. My honest thoughts on the matrix, is that they took an XS chasis and made updates to it. Just saying!

Ive owned xs chassis and completly different than a matrix. Loved the xs at the time but matrix is at least 100pds lighter and can hang skis and somehow mangage to steer on rails. Brands at war is great for the consumer

The skidoo is at a disadvantage from the start longer track and gear ratio. Run a 600 X 129 against the 650 129 both with a 1.25 track then you will have a better comparison.

I’m very impressed with how well a 137”x1.5” 600 kept up with a 129”x1.25” 650. Guess I’ll be staying buying 600r’s for the kids. Also don’t stand up so long when drag racing, all you’re doing is acting like an air brake ;). Great video none the less snowtrax crew!

Not sure if you actually watched the video or not. It clearly states the Skidoo was a 1.25 track. Many go fast guys argue that a 137 is actually an advantage. Which is evidenced by the fact that yamaha and arctic cat spec the SRX and thundercat with 137's.

After running renegades for years and years and finally hoping on an mxz this year I can agree that in terms of traction the 137” can’t be beat but in terms of weight(both rotating and non rotating) and track speed you can’t argue that the 129” will outpace the 137” every single time.

I have 3300 miles on my 20 renegade x 600R. It has been perfect as far as reliability, fuel consumption and vibration, no complaints. This is primarily my wife's sled but we do swap off with my 21 XRS 850 renegade at times. I will tell you that for short distances the 600R will hang with my 850, but there is no comparison in the seat of the pants feel. The bigger displacement just pulls harder from the get go. I'm guessing you feel that difference between these two sleds as well.

Another fun to watch video. I do own a 2015 Renegade X with the 600 H.O. engine and that’s plenty HPs for me. It is so good on gas and oil consumption, I am very please with the performance. If I was in the market for a new sled, I would probably go with the 600R package. Well maybe a MACH Z ... if money is no issues 😆😎👍👌. Thanks Luke and Dad !!!

That said I usually only watch the reviews on Ski Doo models, with a few other interesting reviews of competing sleds. I have a garage full of restored, vintage, SkiDoos, and always have a top of the mark current SkiDoo for a driver. That said, I always take your opinion as gold! Great comparison, I am a doo fan. I was wondering how the 2 would compare. As I thought the way it would go, is the way it turned out. If the throttle was held longer, does the Polaris keep on pulling, or does gap stay the same? If also started from a stop, does the doo take off quicker and Polaris playing catch up? Actually it doesnt take more power to spin a 137. The sled doesnt really know how long its track is. Theres a slight weight penalty. But really, thats about it. A taller or shorter lug paddle would have more of an effect than a 129 VS 137. You have to remember, thats only 4 inches more track on the snow.

So it does take more power/ torque cause of weight. The motor has to spin the track the track is 4 inches longer and weight is more on that track so motor has to work harder to spin say track??. Its like this i mud bog race i put bigger tires on the truck the tires are heavier so takes more energy to move correct?? Then my so called smaller tires ?? So you re gear your diff so you can spin the bigger tires??. Same goes for the tracks on the sled ?? Noooo.. as I said I like both sleds.. I was just stating real world facts on friction and power loss on rotation mass.. ?? And of course the sled doesn't know the track is bigger . But I bet if you were to put a 129 on a dyno to a 137 with the same gearing or clutching it would show that the motor is working a little harder to spin just that little 4inch longer track that weights more...

Why do you say the 137 on the Doo would be an advantage? You are doing a rolling start on what appears to be very cold, packed, hard snow with good grip. The 137 may be better from a dead start, but a extra spinning weight is a disadvantage in this case. You show 4 different pulls where Mark is standing in all of them. In 3 of the 4 pulls, Mark is standing on the Doo and the Polaris has a larger gap. In the pull where Mark is standing on the Polaris, the gap is smaller. I have both Polaris and Ski Doo machines, I don't care what is faster, and you do state this is "unscientific" and you are having fun, I get it. However, you guys get accused of bias toward Polaris, maybe the parameters of this test show some of the reasons.

Many go fast guys feel the 137 is an advantage becasue the track has a lower attack angle. Ask yourself this, why did arctic and yamaha choose 137 skidframes for the t-cat and SRX? If a 129 was faster, they would have gone that route. We didnt show EVERY run. We probably did 30 runs that day. Not all were filmed and not all filmed shots were useable. THe ones that worked showed mark on the skidoo more often. But the actual run count was even for both. Funny how no one comments on me being heavier than mark and that being a disadvantage.

I would say the biggest difference is the Matryx platform. It just feels so good going in and coming out of corners on the trails. There is nothing on the market like it. Personally I wouldn't own a 2 stroke anymore. I don't want to make the time to be tearing engines down every 8000km or so. Which is every 2 years. Less time in the shop and more on the trails. Now if we could only get Polaris to put their 4 strokes in sleds.

You don't wash out powering out of a corner as easy allowing you to come on the throttle earlier and gain a substantial lead vs lesser track sizes. Any larger then 139 and it will start over steering you around corners. You can leave the 129 and less tracks well behind the pack. There's a reason all the premium trail machines run a 136-139. You pay extra to be top trail dog.

@@thomasg990 The sled companies hire pro riders to test these machines and come to these conclusions. Personally I like short tracks so I can drift around corners. That doesn't make it the best possible setup in timed races with professional riders. All the manufacturers have done that and come to the conclusion that 136-139 is the sweet spot. Just cause you like it or have it, that doesn't make it "the best". It just needs to be fun for you and that's all that really matters.

@@shperax I still think 121-129 is the sweet spot I've been riding since I was 13 now 52 so I'm pretty sure I've been riding long enough to know.. my cousin got rid of his sled last year he said he should of kept it cause they'll never probably make 121s no more and they all push very dangerous on trails too pushing into corners when someone else is coming pushing towards you cause they can't handle the sled pushing..🤷🏻‍♂️ hence why people are wrecking more than usual.. pretty sad I think the market is just targeting non trail rider's and the crossover and mountain section and you can't even go off most of the trails any more without getting a ticket 🤷🏻‍♂️

K The Ski-doo is carrying around a longer, heavier track and rear suspension and the Polaris didn't "blow the doors off" the Ski-doo it finger walked away. I'm assuming the Ski-doo is geared lower and clutched differently than if it was a short track model?

Nope. The skidoo is geared and clutched exactly the same as their own 129. The ONLY disadvantage the skidoo is at with the 137 is the SLIGHT weight increase. But its so minimal. Much less than the difference in weight between mark and I. A sled doesnt really know how long its track is other than traction.

The difference is EXTREMELY minimal and some go fast guys would even argue 137s are slightly faster. The only difference is a few lbs extra weight. A snowmobile doesnt know how long its track is. The difference is weight is less than the difference in weight between mark and I.

Not fair notice both mark and Luke stood straight up when riding the ski doo! The wind resistance when racing like that is ridiculous! It’s like holding a 6 foot shield while trying to race. I don’t believe the Polaris is that much faster! The last race was even worse he looked like he didn’t even care about getting on the throttle of the ski doo. He was looking over at him standing up…

Well yeah obviously the 650 is faster, i mean it should. It would be kinda emberassing if it wasn't. Looked like that longer track on the Doo helped it at launch am i wrong? And then the Polaris got past pretty soon afterwards.

I ride polaris and have a lunch 650. Great sled ! However it ALWAYS takes a bigger motor for polaris to beat ski doo. I'm actually not surprised that the ski doo was that close

I have to disagree with that I know the 600 cfi 2018 xcr 600 136” was easily beating skidoo etec every run. Also the 800 HO cfi was always giving the etec 850 run for its money.

The track on the doo is also 6.2% longer. The race would be more fair from a stop. It takes HP to turn a larger track and that will suffer on the top end... but you guys are the pros🤣 and in Polaris’s pocket

Hey travis... do some research. Many go fast guys feel a 137 is faster than a 129 because the approach angle on the track is lower. Most go fast guys agree that the 137 is not slower than a 129. A snowmobile doesnt know how long its track is. Proof of this is the fact that both Yamaha and Arctic Cat chose 137 skidframes for their dedicated lake racer sleds the SRX and T-Cat. Why would they do this if the 137 was slower?

You both need to have the same seating position, not one standing the other sitting. It might not change the results too much, but at those speeds the wind resistance is significant. I just saw the other similar post...

Mark had back surgery right before the snow season so it was just uncomfortable to sit for this race. Didn't really impact the outcome. Both sleds had high trail windshields anyways so they're not exactly set up for racing. This was just for fun and entertainment like our Timbersled vs Assault race last season.

We switched back and forth. The disadvantage would be equal either way. It made no difference. The polaris was still faster with mark on it.

Chill bro. It was an excited comment after having some fun. Ever get excited? The track length MIGHT make a TINY difference if at all. A snowmobile doesnt know how long its track is. The only disadvantage would be a few lbs of weight. But less than the difference between mark and I.

It would get mauled. The 6000 is a solid motor, but its slower than Doo and polaris' previous 600's. These new motors would embarrass it

I personally don't care because looks, to me, are more important than who can beat others (by 1 or 2 sled lengths) at the end of the lake. I watch Snow Trax religiously and love the Lester boys and there input on the good and bad about different manufactures

Even with the Polaris 650 predictably beating out the 600R I'm curious if Ski-Doo actually feels the need to come out with their own 650 in the next couple years or not. They have a nicely balanced lineup between the 600 EFI at 85 HP, 600R at 125 HP, and of course the 850 at 165 HP, not to mention a decent lineup of 4 stroke engines as well, something Polaris has yet to come out with, or perhaps doesn't want to. Either way, competition between manufacturers is always a win for the consumer.

I doubt they will for 2 reasons, costs a ton to get a motor EPA certified, #2 most insurances have two classes 600 cc and under, and over 600 cc, so it costs as much as a 850 to insure the 650 which is a big downside

@@gregc247 Many insurance companies class vehicles in 100cc increments starting at 500-599, then 600-699. Which means a 600 and 650 are in the same classification for rates. Motorcycles are like this too. My best friend is an insurance broker. Weve talked about this many times.
