I started to drag race Arcticcat in 1976 a 440Z. We jumped into super stock,Mod and Open classes. With my dad setting it up and me racing it. We won just about every race. I had a 634 Puma 440Z and a 700Zr and 900 Zr. That 900 could outrun any of the other sleds. Arcticcat has always been a awesome sled.

it's very dissapointing that all the content creators in the sled market all fixate on the biggest, baddest sleds when there are thousands of guys looking to get into the sport within a modest budget.i'm 57 and have decided to jump in instead of tracking my side by side when i bought on lakefront.there's nothing out there on entry level full size snowmobiles.even the big 3 are guilty of it.they push the turbo mountain sleds and completely ignore the entry level trail machines.it's making it extremely hard to research the right sled for me.

Well i bougth a used Khaos 2020 155 myself and it works amazing. Its easy to get used to and it makes me a better rider. It works on the trails but its not made for trails. And not in high speed. Before this one i had a Boondocker 800 with a 4100 or 163" track with 3" lugs. I really liked that sled. I love this one. And will probably buy the Matrix next time.. And the Khaos with the same length. Amazing in the deep and carves like crazy. If you try one you will buy one.. Just to get to know how to adapt to the steering if you are used to BRP,s... And it took me 15.-20 minutes.. The Khaos could not be more different than the old Lynx i had. Lighter and feels lighter than it is even..

A complete miss. The glory days of the Yamaha snowmobiles were in the 70's with the incredible GPX and Exciter models followed by the SRX sleds.

the ride style has alot of benefits.....the only negative is that its harder to stand all your weight on one tunnel and yank it over sideways for carving. that ability of the older bench style snowmobiles is a liabily 90% of the time but its great for that niche.

King Cat was Awesome for its time. 4 cylinders and extremely fast for the time however it didn’t last long. But then they came out with a 3 cylinder. And that sucker was awesome. It lasted much longer.

Polaris was a real dumpster in the 2000's. I'd love to hear what the executives and product managers were thinking in 2001 when the Rev, Firecat, and RX-1 seemed to catch them totally flat-footed. Everything felt desperate after that - from those Pro X2 models with the funky seat which were supposed to be "rider-forward", to the Fusion disaster, to IQ chassis pivot which was just the mountain chassis hood on a Fusion and a revert to their old twin engines. The Rush was ok, but I can't believe such a radical concept was greenlit with all the trouble they were having as a brand. It really wasn't until the Axys that Polaris hit their stride again, but even that seemed lucky because it was a doubling down on the concept of the 2013 Indy SP, which was a budget rush without the uncoupled suspension that happened to work amazingly well. I guess the Assault was doing it too. But honestly the Matryx felt like the first time in 15+ years that Polaris was actually innovating and on par with the Rev's. That's a long time.

My assault boost is a fun sled but 2 of our 3 850 turbo Polaris' have now blown up inside of 1100 miles... assault included. Stop rides and the rear suspension flat sucks. But it is fun... when it runs.

Snowmobiling was the primary joy in my life until I worked as an ER doctor in Michigan and saw horrific injuries with paramedics describing cases that never made it to the ER because the victim was obviously dead, such as the brain basically liquefied inside the helmet. After several close calls on trails (Michigan is infamous for blind corners), I knew it was just a matter of time until someone traveling 70 miles per hour or more struck me - traveling slowly and responsibly. The last one missed me by inches, if that. That was enough; no more. The snowmobile industry has catered to speed demons and turned a blind eye to technology that could safeguard riders so the speed freaks could risk suicide without taking others with them, including children in some cases. The bottom line is that the snowmobiling industry is essentially slitting its own throat. Sales have plummeted even though machines are vastly superior to what they once were. After living in northern Michigan for 30 years, it’s obvious that snowmobiling is markedly less popular than it once was, with miles traveled a small fraction of what they once were, and dealerships frequently vanishing. Speed isn’t the only contributor to this downfall, but it is a critical component that no prudent manufacturer or magazine would discount. The snowmobile industry is essentially whistling past the graveyard, but I don’t have to sing along.

I think this will be the trail sled I pick up for the 2024 winter start this year and trade in my old 2011 mxz. It is easily the best looking new sled I think. I like the minimalist of the new chassis and light weight. And the 600 is a great engine I’m confident the 858 will be a beast and reliable. I like the easy access to the battery and the easy remove panels. Man it just looks awesome. Thanks for the great review 🇨🇦🤝

The Assault is an amazing sled for sure, but dependability is always an issue with the 850. The older 600 was very dependable, im not sure how the new 650 is doing because I have no personal experience with them.

Catalyst. Fun Factor pegged. Cat durability. Value. 600 runs with 800's all day. Looks the best. Makes you giggle out loud in the twisties. No worries about having to tow back a Polaris because after 35 years of riding a CAT you learn not to ride with the Polaris faithful.... and they never learn to pack a rope???

Giggles on the catalyst ??👀👀. I totally can relate. I got in trouble because of the sled. It made me stay an extra 3 days in the mountains this season. You just can’t get enough of it. You know if you know. All I can say is bring on my 858.

Whats the point of reviewing something if it gets changed the next year? Rating a '24 doo comp for anyone looking to buy a new 25 is a waste, considering its a new sled with a different front end. Lol these rankings are only for people that have already bought the sled yo compare with one another, and lets jist put it out there, most are already happy with what they bought. Id rather see a review of next years models before i spring order, too bad manufacturers wont let reviewers try and release their opinions prior to ordering.

You just answered your own question. We dont get access to next years stuff till the very end of the season. And, why would you ever trust an award given to a sled we'd only ridden a few times. We do our Sled of the Year award at the end of the season so we can piut a full season of riding on it to make sure our opinions are based on actual miles ridden. Not just hype. Anyone who pics a sled of the year at the beginning of the season has no where near enough time on it to know if it really IS the best or not. We have no control over what the manufacturers do with their sleds each year. But we think its interesting to know what sleds stood out to us each season. And, countless people tell us year after year that our sled of the year awards help them choose what used sled to buy later on. its not a perfect system. But its the best one we have.
