Fun fact: Polaroid film now comes in 8 pictures per pack instead of 10 because the chemicals they used originally are no longer produced, resulting in a new formula that's slightly thicker on the paper. That means on older cameras, you have to manually subtract 2 from the displayed pictures remaining count.

Combined with the vinyl resurgence, I really feel like we’ve started to enjoy value and physical ownership of the media we consume, not just having it as convenient as possible. As someone who’s obsessed with vinyl and instant photography, I’m all for it!
@Xyler94 Жыл бұрын
Not at all, The resurgence is simply nostalgia. But the thing is, it's not that we're enjoying physical more, is that stuff like Polaroids and Vinyl aren't instant, so you gain more attached to them. Vinyl sucks as a pure listening thing. Your digital music (when mastered properly) will sound way better out of the same system than a vinyl. But, because Vinyl forces you to go through a process, it feels different than Spotify. It's a more intense desire, so it's a more intense feeling. Its not Vinyl and Polaroids that are giving this effect, it's the fact they force you to take it slow. And anything that slows you down will feel better.
@KAIJUCHOMPS Жыл бұрын
I don't know if this is just the case for me but the only reason I buy vinyls is if I'm getting them more or less direct from the artist and its a very tangible way to directly support them. I can't say I prefer listening to them, lossless digital just *is* better for me. Physical, tangible experience with music listening sure is fun sometimes though.

@@Xyler94Does the same apply on listening to radio? Just asking
@emfie1 Жыл бұрын
@@Xyler94That's one of the reasons I like to listen to vinyl. It takes more effort but that's kind of the point, when I listen to a record its very intentional. It's not just something to put on in the background or while out and about like Spotify tends to be. Plus it's just really cool to own your favorite music rendered into physical form

I feel like the rangefinder Polaroids would be so much better if the rangefinders were binocular; having two viewpoints, one for each eye, could potentially alleviate some of the alignment problems since you don't have to compensate for the parallax of a single eye.

Interesting tidbit about the sonar focus on the cameras, in the 70s when the US was designing its first stealth planes, they tried to photograph them with a Polaroid camera, but every shot came out blurry. It turned out the stealthy shape and paint of the plane was confusing the camera and making it impossible to take a photo of with that sort of camera, and it inspired the people behind the plane to apply the same tech to submarines, making them even stealthier.

I bought an SLR for $10 once, and an SX-70 for $5, the last quite recently. I mostly collect mechanical 35mm rangefinders and SLRs but Polaroids are fun.

"Only take photos of something special" Nah mate, polaroids time to shine is when you're three sheets to the wind at a house party where you don't even know whose house it is

The modern versions have a plastic lens where's the old expensive units use glass. That is the biggest difference and causes the modern ones (even the 80's ones) to be slightly less sharp.
@LitchiBorrower24 күн бұрын
the biggest difference is actually down to the fact that you can focus precisely the SLR models, whereas almost all other models are either fixed focus or at best zone-focus

The return of physical film has had me giddy this entire year. Being able to slap 600 in my parents old Polaroid or just nab a box of mini 40 has been so nice. As someone who's always been click happy but grew up in that sweet spot of the "In-between days of digital" as a millennial, it's been great being able to just whip out my phone and take a killer, clean snap of a moment but also elect to intentionally grab the bag, an extra load of film and go find a reason to slow down and consider a shot when I only get 10 -20 chances, and after, what you get is what you get. Slap a note on the bottom and chuck it in the photo album on the coffee table. In a way, I much prefer those slightly foggy, out of focus shots because it's just a real moment stuck there with the imperfections, in your hand. It was something I never knew I missed until I had it back.

Can confirm, picked up an old 600 camera for $5 because it was a near decoration, then one day figured I'd chuck some film in it. Worked like a charm no problem now I love buying a photo pack for trips and bringing it along for special shots!

Polaroid *just* released a new camera, the I-2, which has full manual control. It's a bit expensive, but it's really exciting. They say it's the most advanced polaroid camera ever. Would be really cool to see my favorite Aussie man and nugget connoisseur review it, but I'm not gonna beg (a lot)

I have the Fujifilm Instax. Based on Kodak chemistry, it exposes to the back instead of to the front like Polaroid.

I'm not sure, but seeing the rear of Polaroid's new Go film it also exposes to the back.

I have a Instax Wide camera and it's fantastic. I have read online that the Instax film is better quality then the Polaroid film.

I started doing photography with Polaroids because of your video a year or so ago (got me own sun 600, from a photographer that kept it in amazing condition) haven't used it in a month because I'm alot more busy now, but im heading to my local targèt to pick up my favorite method of flash bang today and will restart the cycle of physical photos, the instant I want them!
@cerberusdaemon5867 Жыл бұрын
Did Polaroid pay you to do this video? Because they should, this is honestly a fantastic Ad for Polaroid. I have never had any interest in physical photos but after watching this, damn. I want to buy a Polaroid immediately! There's just something fascinating about it.

God this takes me back but I can't deny that the i-type is superior to the 90's tech. You get all the clarity of the SLR but with bigger and brighter colors and detail.

When you opened the new camera up, i was expecting you to say something like "I can't beleve people wanted this!" Awesome video, nice to see a company come back from the grave for once instead of placing its second food into it.

Your polaroid video last year made me go down the whole pipeline and I bought two cameras (a vintage 660 and a new i-type) it’s so god damn cool and is great to pull out at parties and when I’m just chilling with friends. So just coming back to say thanks.

You forgot to mention that a pack only holds eight shots!
@benjaminzarkhin12937 ай бұрын
Old packs used to hold 10, but new ones have to use different chemicals that take up more space in the paper, thus missing out on 2 exposures.

Wow man that's nuts. I remember buying impossible project film for my sx70 back in 2010 (I was born in '98) and that was the only place you could get it from. I still have a sweet collection of Polaroid cameras and I just started collecting and shooting with digicams. Long live older forms of photography ❤
