When you think of the song in the context of how society was in older days ( especially rural areas ) ~ Where it was more common for an older man to buy the dowery for a young teen girl ; and it was accepted as normal . Then the context of the song isn't so much the older man was a ' pervert ' , respectfully ( which is where my mind went to too when I first read the lyrics ) , but a view based on our modern moral standards . The only instrumentation I've heard on other versions of this song is one of those round hand drums . "So he joined the folk dance the folk dance, next to the girls all the maidens fled away All the maidens fled away remained the youngest Remained the youngest maiden the youngest maiden Angelina " Thank you for the reaction !
