Pole Bicycles has been at the bleeding edge of the "longer, lower, and slacker" trend for years now and their Taival is no different. The designers at Pole make some of the longest bikes on the planet, and their philosophy is based around speed and technical terrain. How does the Pole Tavail stack up against other modern hardcore hardtails? Today we take a first look at this frame and build it up with some of my favorite parts. Full frame details here: bit.ly/3dz9Ep3

This is a reminder that not every company sizes the same. This size small is larger than a lot of larges I always strive to be brutally honest in my reviews and to not just go over specs. Here are some of the things I love and don't love so far. Dislikes: - paint quality is a bit lacking (drops, uneven coverage) - ugly welds (which doesn't necessarily mean weak) Likes: - Total bike weight was light for an aggressive build like this - straight seat tube. This should be standard in every hardtail when possible - cable routing is FANTASTIC - super modern geo without going overboard. - huge stack - threaded bb This bike has a lot of potential. I have high hopes for its ride. Stay tuned and make sure you're subscribed to see the on-board ride review. Want some insider scoop on these bikes before the reviews hot KZbin? Built up my medium Pole Taival early February and have been enjoying here on the coast of BC. It has been so good on the steeps and still really fun riding the mellow trails with my 8 yr old. Climbs great as well, getting up stuff I never imagined. Playful. I went with 150 mm Z1 coil which has been a sweet choice.

Nice to see you’ve got your hands on some of the Hunt wheels too! It’s interesting that you’re using them as an even baseline for checking out how different frames feel. I never tried a trail wide - just went for the tougher enduro wide, which I love, even if it is a bit less compliant (I can live with that on the FS). On the HT, I run DTSwiss M1700, they have more flex, but I do think they are a little more fragile.

I like the IS mounts, the post mounts are fine... but if the threads give out an adapter is more easily replaced. The post mounts would have to be drilled out and a helicoil or similar thread insert installed. Use a torque wrench, abide by the spec, and this probably won't be a problem. Regardless I still prefer the IS mount.

As someone that runs an 870mm bb-to-rail, the triangulated seat tube / top tube is great, and does not need to die :) Many frames now just can’t fit me without a post being over max. Remember not all your audience is short ;)
@hardtailparty
@hardtailparty 3 жыл бұрын
You are correct, for large riders it makes a lot of sense. However, on a size small it's totally unnecessary. We shorties need all the leg room we can get with our droppers. I would LOVE to run a 180mm dropper on this frame but i can't without serious modifications.

I’m honestly ok with IS mount. It’s less likely that it will get boogered. Especially with an aluminum frame, all it takes is one novice assembler to mess up a frame by ham fisting a mounting bolt. Also, unless running a 160 rear rotor (or 140 on some XC race frames), you have to use an adaptor anyway. Also, loving the Advent and Advent X.

You might have noticed, but i have a lot of bikes in for review right now. I've ridden the tj a lot, but the only people that have heard my thoughts so far are patrons. I have a schedule of videos i need to release before the tj review.

Sorry but the Finish of products do matter. Even if bike rides amazing in the back of you mind you will still be thinking about how crappy it looks. If I got the frame I would send it right back. Small companies should have better quality control because smaller amount of bikes being sold and need to keep their customer base. Oh I like that you have very comprehensive videos.

If they'd just use a bigger seat tube they could make the seat tube shorter without having to support it. The dumbest, most ridiculous thing ever is the idea that a 30.9 seat tube will be more compliant if you're using a dropper post and I think it's stupid manufacturers are doing it. Flex in a dropper post is bad and they make them as stiff as they can just like a fork so there isn't excess wear on seals, bearings, etc. That's why there's people who don't like shimmed, travel adjusting dropper posts. Because it literally introduces a gap and creates a point of excess flex. So they don't usually last quite as long, especially if you're a tall rider or heavy. The only time a thinner seat tube makes it more compliant is if you don't run a dropper. You're not going to get more compliance from the tube in the areas between the top tube and BB because the flex that leads to compliance will be between the support and unsupported end (aka b/w the support gusset and seat). The only reason I can think that a manufacturer would choose a narrower tube is maybe weight? Cost for straight tubes is basically negligible.

nice first look 👌, but 880$ , i wouldnt pay more than 650 for this "quality", but we'll see how it rides , but if i build upa custom ht , there are so much options this wouldnt make in my top10 frames🤷‍♂️

What is surprising that they send out a bike for review that is not immaculate and that tells me something about a company . If you own a restaurant and a food reviewer comes into your establishment you should have at least clean plates . If you dont you wont be in business very long

Actually, i prefer it when a company doesn't roll out the red carpet for me. O don't want special treatment in my reviews, it means in getting a different experience than the everyday customer.

@@hardtailparty Yes I did think about that where all bikes should be quality from the start but if you struggle to do that for a person who is basically advertising your product tells me a bit about where the companies priority is . I had some weeping sidewalls on on maxxis dhr2s just recently which surprised me as maxis has been a great product . This happened overtime riding and I have road the tire for about 5 months with a thousand miles of hardtail crush . I put in a warranty claim and they are sending me out a replacement without me sending the defective tire back . Now I had a continental tire that developed a wobble shortly after buying it and put in a claim and they said since there is not a physical defect than they cant warranty the tire so a wobble is not a defect . It shows no company is perfect but who actually takes care of their customer and who does not . When I receive something that is not packed well that also puts up red flags saying its a bit lazy and that can manifest in all parts of design and manufacturing bringing a product to market . If you cant do the simple things than how are you going to do the hard things

Lots of bikes are sent to reviewers for limited time, then they have to return them. It would drive them bankrupt to send a new bike every time.
