This title has one of the greatest soundtracks ever written for a game. 2:44 gets me everytime, with the "Jingle Bells" variation and the ticking clock.

Might not be the best game, but it has the best intro. The gangster music, Carnby blowing up the gates, and then baam! AITD 2. Badass.

After AITD, now onto AITD 2. Great !!!!!! I feel like when I was young, back in the mid-90's, when I spent nights and days trying to finish these wonderful games (and never did) !! As long as I remember, I found a secret path in the bushes in the garden, and ended up in the stairway, where a whole bunch of guys ripped me off. Never been able to get past this. Now, I can finally watch this game in its entirety, thanks to you POLE' !! Big up !

I felt so so sorry for the man back when I was a kid.. All the trouble he went through to get to the room and then this stupid clown comes and strangles him.. But Carnby is back again and the intro, just as great as the first one. The empty hollow of the wind, fiery explosion and the title screen.. Oh man how stoked I was! And just as the first game, I could never make it to the end, maybe half way through at best. Merci, mon ami!

This whole intro is great, but the best bit is the scene where he blows the gate, at 04:34. What a great, bold way to set the tone of the game!

excellent! i originally played this game on the sega saturn. it was super difficult! all i remember is having a particularly hard time with some sort of zombie santa, and not being able to get past that point... i was a kid then, though. i can't wait to see you play this game through to the end, and give me the closure i've always wanted!

Alone in the Dark 2 was the game my friend introduced to me. It's before I knew about the first Alone in the Dark game. This game is much less creepy than the first.

Stryker was quite large. It's quite possible that Grace didn't saw it until it was too late. For the rest, my best guess is that he was too concerned with Grace to actually give any attention to any weirdness in this house.

There's an inkling of Lovecraft in the second game (dark\forbidden religions, magical artifacts, undead creatures, that sort of thing, but no direct references to him or his works). As to the third game, it stands on its own, inspired, as one would figure, by the mystique of the "Old West" (the game's production team visited ghost towns in Arizona for design ideas and researched Native American legends in the area).

The first Alone in the Dark was based on the Cthulu mythos books of HP Lovecraft, who was a bit crazy but had a fantastic imagination!

Probably because the graphic engine was similar. At the time (1993), one of this engine's goal was being able to run at a good speed no matter what computer was used (still, you needed a 386 to run it).

@nicolaseltucumano22 You're supposed to be able to double tap the forward button to run, but on some comps that doesn't really work. Another method is to pause, by pressing escape, then resume, when you do, quickly hold the forward button, that SHOULD get you running...

uggg. That's a problem I have too... I can get the bench to move if I spend hours of frustrating fiddling with the controls. Otherwise, it moves fine when I use dosbox.

There is some exploring, like when you go in the house and when you run around in the maze. (rediculously hard) You also get to look around a little bit on the ship. Otherwise, this game does try a bit too hard to have a recognizable plot, where as the first one was mostly about surviving and beating the bad guys. (and reading about the history) It's nice that you have a choice to read the books though...

You have to admit the fighting part is quite hard in this game, and the learning curve is quite steep.

The music quality depended upon the version you played (diskette versus CD-ROM) and also upon which sound card you had in your computer (certain notes might sound different, etc). Personally, I liked the old MIDI music, but everyone has their preference of course. Unless I miss my guess though, POLE here is playing the DOS version of the game, judging from the music.

Yes you're right, have you ever played 'Prisoner of Ice' ? Has Cthulu stuff too, in my opinion is the best mouse-based-RPG alongside with 'The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Serrated Scalpel', both classics..

I know about that. It's a problem with fast CPUs. Since DOSBox emulates an x86 CPU (and old Pentium), the problem doesn't happen with it.

Man, I could never get my theoretical balls to play this game. Be it the zombie guy, the fact that a creepy guy with gun breaking into a little girls room (and me being a little girl at the time), or the super scary clown (and me having a big fear of clowns/dolls)... I installed it many a time, but could never do it, lol.

In my opinion, the best is the first one. It's also the easiest (but it got some hard puzzles). I recommend starting with the first one. The second in very hard when it comes to combat.

This is Alone in the dark 2, there was another that came out around 1993 and it was better, it had a better plot and was more scary, this one is just like an action game

@Elkanthar I honestly didn't think it was that great as a game... xD IMO. I still LIKE it because... well... it's just one of those games that's too epic not to like, no matter how many ridiculous flaws it has. I mean seriously, the controls are nearly broken, the most difficult enemies feature early in the game, whereas some enemies are so easy it leaves you confused. There's just nothing consistent about it, it's out of control! That's why I like it. o_O The music kicks ass, but it's weird...
