I think it’s absolutely viable for the small PDW role in 2024. I think the difficulty for manufacturers is not the machined parts but rather it’s the stamped receiver, but the us market is reflecting a respectable demand for them and it’s been growing massively in the last 3-4 years. Brands like PTR (and I hear zenith) are able to make reliable copies.

No...I've trained with a real HK MP5 multiple times. My local range has one for rent. I'd rather have my M4A1. The MP5 is a great weapon and very fun and easy to shoot. But submachine guns in general are obsolete compared to carbine rifles

But you can actually insert full 30 round mag to ak whitout pulling and locking your chargin handle back at first. Hk slap is cool and fun but in combat situation every movement are much harder to do than in peacefull range. Hk only needs to put rail to top and add last round bolt-hold open and there you have perfectly modermised smg still more than good enough to serve next decade or two.

This is a two two fold question in my opinion. On one side the MP5 will always be the gold standard as there is nothing like shooting an MP5 on full auto. Just absolute perfection to shoot and fun as hell. On the other side the reality of owning an full auto MP5 is a pipe dream for most unless you buy the semi auto version but it's not the same. Buying a full auto MP5 is around 58-60 thousand plus magazines, accessories and parts are expensive and getting hard to find. It's not a poor man's gun so to speak. You can buy other SMG's that are dam near as good but there still is nothing like the real deal. NASA has actually tested an MP5 and have put 500,000 plus rounds down the barrel. I'm not sure if they are still testing it. Yes I said NASA......

I think that MP5 is good enough for certain uses still, like law enforcement. Not too much penetration, but enough to do the job Small enough for CQB or use in a car. As you mentioned, can be modded.

It always seemed strange to me that they never modernized the design of the MP5 with things like built-in Picatinny rails or a flared magwell. I could see the bolt hold-open possibly affecting mechanical function, but the exterior features could probably be changed pretty easily without sacrificing performance.

Can you please make them for Magpul SL grip modules which everyone uses when they install a new Timney 2pound 2stage trigger pack in their German made SP5K's, SP5's and SP5L's. The holster is compatible with SP89, MP5k and MP5SD and already comes in right and left handed version. The Magpul SL grip module is different shape from SEF or Navy lower so the holster doesnt have perfect fit. MP5 with a side folding stock would probably fit in a lefty holster when collapsed (because i suspect it collapses on the left side)

They kind of messed up the UMP - in my opinion they made it too big, simplified it too much and gave it a direct blowback operating system. It's usable in 9mm but too much recoil for .45 to make it enjoyable H&K would easily make a modernised version of the MP5 but they dont have the incentive

the mp5/any cool pcc is a love hate relationship for me, i would love to own one, regardless, but they are needlessly expensive and after firing them in full auto i cannot own one in full auto and i feel like having a semi auto one is neutered. i would love a kriss vector but the same issue applies, no full auto, no fun. the gun was designed around recoil mitigation in full auto and without that it is not as fun.

Hot take: the MP5 is over priced and out dated. There are many other options on the market today that are comparable in quantity, similar if not cheaper in price, and have modernized features, and would achieve the same end goals. It would be epic if H&K revamped it, but I'm sure they would probably add a few thousand more dollars to the price tag of an already overpriced firearm.

Who loves that? I literally ranted about that in our AK12 video. AK have seen so many iterations but they still failed to address some of the major issues. AKV-521 is what AK12 should be... and even that one doesnt have a bolt hold open. Yugo AK - Zastava M70 A actually had an internal bolt hold open but that feature was later removed in favour of BHO magazines

I have SP5K and APC9k Pro SBRs. My brain wanted the APC9k, my heart wanted the SP5K. The B&T is slightly smaller and travels as my bag gun 9 times out of ten. Goddammit. Now I need a new mp5k holster, though 😅
