Can't say it better, and on top of that their video editing is pretty good too. It feels intimate and you get more of an appreciation for how technical performances are.

It may also be the compression rate you are listening to. Not that I disagree with you, it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense from a logistics standpoint that a live recording would sound significantly better. I don't know, honestly.

Kurt Nakanishi Of course. I have not been in the KEXP studio during these performances. I just made a general comment on perceived audio quality between the various artists studio albums and their KEXP shows. I know, it's apples vs. oranges.

The best thing about KEXP is that you see the bands evolving trough presentations... their first one was literally some months after they met and started touring.. now they have a whole life around this music... just amazing.. and the sound quality, OMG... cuddles KEXP!

Chris Bierden is a beast. I'd give my right testicle to have half the rhythm and flow he has. It's one thing to acquire technical skills but it's something completely different when the rhythm flows from the heart like that.

Saw them in Bristol in January and this performance is just as good. Love the interview too. One thing I don't understand is the lack of the synth player when they perform live. Or am I being thick?

My guess is that the synths are laid down in the studio by their producer Ryan (and other players) and he doesn’t want to be involved in the live aspect of the band. It might even take more than one keyboard player to pull off live. Just a guess, though.

Baby Sucks the best of the songs. The others need some polish. Its cool they experiment, but not everything sounds great. Still a very nice band, that sounds original.

this happen when you look for people to complete a band and you don't find coherent players, it's funny how they end up with 2 drummers and no keyboardists xD please "friends that make music" doesn't work that nice and dreamy, and i doubt the intentionability behind, works great, but let's face it , it would be more coherent live with at least one person more on keys-samples and just one drummer

Two drummers are always better - can you not hear the 2 distinct ways both drummers play ? Not only is it a better aural experience,but visually it's more exciting. One of the dumber comments I've seen, that's for real

I don't know, I really can't see see a significative difference between them and (for ex.) the Daughter.. I mean, nice sounds, nice voices and also nice this all experimentation thing... But they're quite all the same: electronic soft sounds, these ethereal women singin with falsetto voices. I feel like all this "indie" thing is slipping away a little.

Haven't heard Daughters latest album, but I think Polica have alot more volume, spectrum of sounds. I guess you include artists like Warpaint and Glasser, but I can still can tell them apart easily. I don't know. You could associate back to Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins.

Not that I know for sure, but I have strong suspicion Polica should be pronounced "Politsha", since it's named after a Polish mountain region, you would think that accented C would sound like the C (Cz) in "Czechoslovakia". Eastern European style. Not "Polisa". Correct me if I'm wrong though.
