No, they hardly ever de escalate the situation. They almost always escalate the situation. I was beat half to death by 5 cops in Coos Bay Oregon for doing nothing more than tripping over my coffee table and putting my hand through the window. Which cut me badly. At the time I was just out of the hospital with a broken leg. My wife had come home from the bar and was passed out in the yard. I helped her up and she sobered up somewhat and tended my arm. Someone driving by called the police thinking I was assaulting a women in my front yard. They beat my injured leg and beat me relentlessly. I ended up in the hospital for a week. Then they arrested me and put me in jail. No charges were ever filed as I done nothing. Go figure.

Cop pulls up, says that they got some noise complaints (They didn't, neighbors on one side were out of town, neighbors on the other side were with us, no other neighbors nearby) Then after a few mins, he pulls the whole "Well I need to check your IDs" (We are all early-mid 30s) so we just laughed, thinking he was just kidding. He got super angry, and started threatening to arrest us if we didn't show him our IDs. We just wanted him to GTFO, so we showed him our Licenses, but one of my friend's forgot his in the car, so he tells the cop that. Cop tells him to go get it, and goes with him. My friend puts his key in the lock to unlock his car, and the cop pulls out his handcuffs and places him under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence. The best part about it though... That friend's dad is the Chief of Police in the next town over. Probably 20-30 mins later the cop ended up having to come back to drop off my friend after he (I would assume) got his ass chewed out by his boss, because you could just see the salt dripping off of him as he opened the door for my friend. Sorry, too long I know. Your "can you share your illegal drugs" comment just suddenly made me remember that day.

No more "FEW rotten apples." ...I'm not even a lawyer, nor am I a person associated with the "Justice" system, but that "few rotten apples" excuse has never been valid in the history of police in this country. If the facts stated here are true, (she was naked in bed, and unarmed) then the cops that shot her should be convicted of murder. I am a responsible gun owner, I am also in support of the police, but if they acted recklessly, and it sure looks like they did, they should be subject to the same disciplinary actions and consequences as anyone else. They should have just let her sleep in peace, and perhaps followed up on the situation later. Most likely no-one would have died. We are talking about taking a life here, that never should have happened!

Tom Payne except in the story they state the facts and they are not true. The headline says they asked her to show the gun and then shot her. During the story, it is described as the woman was naked and in bed. However the officers had responded to the report of a disorderly person, who was intoxicated, armed, possibly suicidal, and had fire at least one round already. They then found her naked in bed asleep. She was told to get up and get dressed so the officers could search the room for the weapon. She then said "Here it is", picked up the gun and then was commanded to put it down. She was then shot and died from the wounds. What part of those facts say the police shot a unarmed naked woman and let's really think about if she should have been left to sleep it off.
