My uncle is a highly educated, highly intelligent, plus wealthy businessman. He operates two businesses 6 days a week, plus has assets to maintain. He's had these same issues for the majority of his career. While out doing field assignments for an agency that's under his name, he's been viewed as suspicious and threatening when in predominantly caucasian neighborhoods in NY. All they see is a well built Black man, but he's a well accomplished overachiever that has made quite the life for himself. He could be fresh from vacationing in Beverly Hills, but still can't take a vacation from the biased opinions of others that only see his skin. Foolish people would refer to him as a nerd.

things are not always as it appears. i was walki g in my neighborhood,saw a black guy pull his new mazerati next to a suv...he was marking the tires with blue chalk. now commonsense tells me he was marking the car to be towed that day or very mear future. i started talki g to him about his car..he was cool. we have to stop this craziness of calling the police because one doesn't look like he belongs in a neighborhood. my neighborhood is predominantly white, with some asian and black families. i would have done the same to a white guy...my favorite car is a maserati😊
@drmayeda19306 жыл бұрын
Wait, why would he want a new car towed if he drove it in? Sounds like he was marking to see if the car had moved.

One of my pet gripes about 911 calls acted on by police or when being dispatched to check out suspicious activity-once it is in their heads, you are often considered guilty of something even if nothing real was going on. I once was reported by a person who was certain I was doing something illegal, though I was clearly not and could prove it. But the only response to this by the police who showed up is that I should know better than to be there, as if it was my fault for causing them to be called. I do not hesitate to believe from their treatment of me that their report of our contact to this day suggests they could not arrest me only because they could not prove anything, not because I really was innocent. I do not want to generalize that this is the usual police response, but it is observable in some of the shootings or arrests of innocent people that at least some police arrive with their minds all set to believe whatever suspicion the 911 caller might have placed in their minds, as if this alone was sufficient proof to carry any encounter to the next, or even ultimate, level.

You only stick out with people who have a race bias. Sorry people haven’t figured it out and caused your discomfort. I was lucky, maybe that’s the word, growing up. My parents hired a young black woman to keep me and do housework. I loved her. When I was about four I pushed a chair over where she was ironing, climbed up kissed her on the cheek and said, “I love you.” She snapped back, “Don’t you ever say that to me again.” I was surprised. Even that young I knew she liked me okay and figured there must have been another rule I didn’t know about. Because of her I never fell for the white, disrespectful comments about blacks, called the n* word in the 50s in Virginia.

This isn’t going to help the problem. That requires proper education from parents. This is just more adolescent finger pointing. Forcing people to admit that they are racist does nothing to help the problem. Shame begets animosity. Animosity begets projection and xenophobia. This revolving door involving shaming one another in front of TV cameras.

I hate politicians, charity collectors knocking on my door. So my point is more easily understood by saying these people would not be tolerated in banks ,restaurants and stores like Walmart. Charity collectors may be by the door but they can not choose where to locate in the store. On the other hand people running for pubic office can demand to enter my condo high rise and knock on doors. The hallways are private property but legally we must let them walk. If I walked behind them telling them to leave the owners private property that would be harassment. Bottom line is what is the story about people not wanting to be bothered at their homes or is it about a black woman who knocks on doors.

I can see why they were afraid on both counts. They were afraid the sista was a thief (although I think she's a bit brave to be canvassing neighborhoods and literally walking up to/knocking on doors solo. Anybody can say they thought she was "tresspassing" and shoot her) and the white man - well, we all have watched Criminal Minds and CSI and all that. They were probably afraid he was some rapist, kidnapper, serial killer, or pedophile searching for his next victim. He, too, needs to be careful roaming around neighborhoods, knocking on doors on his own. Maybe it's just me - but I don't like RANDOM people I don't know knocking on my door for whatever reason. We don't have door-to-door salesmen anymore and people ain't used to that stuff anymore. Random people come by to drop off mail and deliveries. Visitors are people we know. So, instead of going door to door (which could be dangerous) - why not just leave a flier in everyone's mailbox letting them KNOW first that you will be in the neighborhood during the week of XYZ to talk to voters about their wishes and concerns vs. just randomly showing up.

I noticed in the video audio that The news Man stated it was legal to go door-to-door as a candidate running for office but it was illegal if you were trying to sell something. And that's the first thing the officers ask. Lucky for the candidate that he didn't tell him that he was trying to sell something to the General Public, himself. I guess then they would have jumped out as usual and commence to beating and throwing him down on the ground. From the videos I've seen on so-called law enforcement if they haven't seen any American citizens blood lately they might have killed him. With so-called law enforcement you never know what they'll do.
