This police chase is very disturbing. I am not a law enforcement officer but I do not understand why this vehicle would not be stopped either at the on-ramp to I-80 in the canyon going westbound or in the industrial park in West Valley City. Seems to me there are two great opportunities to stop this vehicle in non populated areas. Can someone please educate me. Thank you to all the officers involved in helping stop this Criminal. This could have turned out much worse.

They let him go to a residential area before apprehending. You aren't the one who needs the education.

You don't really realize how beautiful the place that you live is until you see views like this. I know it's beautiful but this takes it to a whole new level. Those choppers are such an integral part of catching the bad guys. Just to have eyes in the sky is huge and the guys that fly them are pretty cool, too.

From my Vantage Point that is a 4 door Ford Pickup Truck White in Color. Not a Car. Then you have to ask yourself is the person in the Vehicle Deaf and Blind to not hear or see a Helicopter Buzzing them

So why didn’t the one officer pull in FRONT of him instead of to the side of him? Makes no sense! And he just drove off. STUPID at its finest! I’ll bet that was difficult for the helicopter pilot to watch their stupidity!

Harder to stop a car in front than in back, they can easily swerve around you or fishtail you into traffic or a ditch. Plus it's hard to keep your eye on the fleeing vehicle behind you and the traffic in front of you.

And if you're talking about when he first took off, you don't want to be in front of a car that can ram you. And if they start firing at you with guns, you have no way to protect yourself, no doors, nothing. It's a tactical advantage to be at the flank or the rear.

You can tell Utah does not have a lot of experience with police chases. Most agencies would have placed a unit at the on ramp, in the very beginning, with spikes already laid out, just in case. It isn't like they didn't have time. Then, 5 on 1 in an industrial area with no innocents, but he just strolls right by all 5 of them with no effort at a block? Painful to watch.

Well, that was nothing but embarrassing. All of that preparation and they blow it in a matter of seconds. In a matter of seconds the criminal showed himself to be smarter than the police

The lead car should have pulled right in front of the truck. they could have boxed him in before he even had a chance to put the truck in gear. And that's where I stopped watching. Is it incompetence? They've shown an awful lot of fear for one guy in a truck armed with a screwdriver...

as obvious as it would seem to non-law enforcement, they dont block the front because they dont know if the driver is armed and would shoot at that car. if you listen to the earlier audio they talk about blocking but ultimately decide against because of suspects weapons history, @12:47. but they did give him an out by not hitting the drivers door and pushing it. but there again you dont know if he could shoot a gun at them. they played it safe since he wasnt a deadly threat.

He can shoot sideways also so why did the officer pull up to his door? Instead of putting the public in danger do the job you signed up for. Twice they had him and didn't block him. If you aren't going to do something why even try in the first place.

I don’t know anything about police chases, but why wouldn’t they put a car on the cattle guard of the on-ramp? It seems like this would block and possibly prevent a high speed chase -reducing chance of bystander injury. Anyway… appreciate all officers involved.

When did they change over to the new system because I was listening to them a few weeks ago. In Davis county you can listen to the new system on broadcastify. Its MHz 700 p25. I think it's delayed though. The feed doesn't match with the sirens if you know what I mean. And its far and few between. All the reasons they've given for why they went this way isnt good enough. Its sneaky.

I've heard most agencies have started using encryption with their radios. It doesn't seem right to me. But you know, if they say, 'officer safety' enough times- they will get their way.
