I am from India I cleared one thing about the ticket checker he didn't want to take bribe from you. he don't know the scenario that happens in early stage of your journey. its just a misunderstanding he just charged the official penalty because you have economy class ticket and traveling in business class thats why he asking to pay the penalty. hope you understood now brother. And another thing is that they don't forcefully romeved u from the economy class they just wants this in a good manner for your convenience in this journey that why they upgraded you to business class.

Hi Jack, I think you dealt with the problem with good self control and believe me you made the right choice. I think you handled the situation well. Now, just to let you know you were safely escorted to Multan by members of the ISI intelligence. The same for the chap who spoke fluent English at Multan station offering to take you to a hotel. While the policeman and his team took you to a more comfortable location so that they could get to know you a little better and help you guys be comfortable with your surroundings and journey. Don’t worry you’re free to roam the place no one will say anything to you. It’s a little like Israel the Mossad will always be around to keep eye on foreigners.

basically here in pakistan, there are two types of train tickets one type is the open ticket ( which you guys bought) in these open ticket you just allowed to travel in train and you've no seats reserved for you so lets just suppose if the train got full by all the passenger with those who've booked seats then you guys would've to travel by just standing because you didn't bought the seat. the other type ticket is when you book a SEAT or Birth( in which you can lay down) so you've to pay a higher price in comparison of Open ticket but you got a reserved seat or birth in which only you're allowed to sit ... so next time when you want to travel for long hours in train try to book a birth and for short hours a seat would be enough.

You were on open ticket. Open ticket means you don't have any reservation.A person with a reservation can remove you from his place.When you have an open ticket you should pay some extra amount to the ticket checker and make a reservation and it is not a bribe but a legitimate procedure.Ticket checkers were just being nice to you they just wanted assure your safety

When you traveled from Karachi to Hyderabad in economy class without reserving a seat, there wasn't a problem because the distance was shorter, and there's usually a lot of hustle in economy class. Even if someone tried to take your seat, you could easily find another one since the distance between Karachi and Hyderabad is short. However, when you were traveling from Hyderabad to Multan, which is a much longer distance, and you hadn't reserved any seats because you had open tickets, anyone could have taken your seat at any station. In fact, the police ensured your seat was reserved so that no one would disturb you, and then they upgraded you to business class for your security. The ticket checker wasn't aware of this and asked you for 4000 rupees for the business class seat. He was just doing his duty, and that's why he asked you to pay. You should always reserve seats, whether traveling in economy or business class.

Jack, it’s not a scam. The tickets are printed in bulk, the train tariff increase is an on going phenomenon; and on the ticket only one item is variable ie the price. So for many reasons the best to stamp the ticket with new price as and when the prices change. Hope it clarifies🙏

You buy the ticket without reservation and sit in reserved coach, the railway conductor do a good job and reserve your seats to your name and then the conductors make a special effort and seat you an others AC standard coaches. They could have forced you to AC the first time they came around. They really wanted to make you feel home and applied diplomacy. They were also really excited about your presence. You're a foreigner and here in Sindh region outside of the Karachi specially they try to give extra security and a good living experience to foreigners that is why you're not allowed to live in any cheap hotel but luxury hotels so you can enjoy your moments and never face any issues or difficulties. Now come to the train part, You bought tickets for ECONOMY, But we all know that how f**ked up our economy class is and you was not comfortable there as well that is why police inside the train put you in Business Class for free so you can have a safe and cosy or comfortable travel but looks like he forgot to tell that to ticket collector and when ticket collecter checked your tickets it was of Economy Class and you were in business that is why he asked for more money which is the actual price for business as he didn't knew that you were put by police there but not by yourself.

It's always an adventure riding PR trains. Furthermore, the STE (Special Ticket Examiner) was not corrupt and wanted to issue you EFT (Excess Fare Ticket) for changing from economy to ac lower. He was probably not informed that it was police who moved you here.
