Oh! We improperly seized your car, you can have it back now if you pay the towing and storage fees and don’t worry about the damage we caused when we searched it.

Mass surveillance of a peaceful population: What could go wrong?

That's one thing that took a turn for the worse after the end of the Cold War. During the Cold War, police and politicians would never try stuff like this because the public outcry over trying to make the city/county/state more like the Soviet Union would put them out of a job. Cold War ends (because state infringement of individual liberties kills your economy). And police and politicians in the U.S. are suddenly in love with the policies formely used in the Soviet Union.

"Don't break the law and you have nothing to worry about" is the pinnacle of people not knowing how law enforcement engages with the public.

Law enforcement is getting WAY worse day by day. I used to be a huge supporter of law enforcement, now anytime i see a news report of one down, i’ like 🤷♂️. They earned the hate themselves, if they policed themselves as much as they do to innocent people…..we’d be in Mayberry.

"Trust but verify" is good advice in every situation. Relying on electronic and mechanical devices without verifying is imprudent. That's how you get self-cleaning litter boxes harming cats and cops arresting innocent people.

As a resident of CT, once got a ticket from NYC but hadn't been there in years.

Similar with me and LA. Except I had never driven in LA. My attorney told me it was cheaper to pay than fight.

Same here. I live in Phoenix and got one of those automated turnpike tickets from NYC. Thing is that the make/model/color of my vehicle didn't even come close to the photo, and, the plate was clearly not an Arizona plate (I think it was Florida). Sent it back with a FU attached and haven't heard anything in over a year.

We use LPR (License Plate Reader) to control access to our HOA community. It isn't 100% correct and sometimes deny access to Handicap plates because the standard Florida plate has a bunch of oranges in the center and a normal plates print the numbers/letters to the left and right of the oranges. However on handicap plates they print over the oranges and the reader has a difficult time reading these plates.

LPR cameras are "privately" owned but police can access the information without having a warrant. The computer can easily learn your patterns with enough of them.

Those black poles on the side of the road with a camera and solar panel on top.... That's a flock safety camera. They are everywhere in rural Ga.
