You can prove malicious internet. Easy you need to take them to court Set precedence. You have to need all party's in the suit they are all agents for the facility. Your going to get the same run a round like the give everyone. And everyone chalks it up as a loss, thinking there's nothing they can do about it . I think it's a scam with both the renter and the storage places! I bet they add crazy fees onto the sale so they get big payday and is why they are not willing to hear your side. I would ask to have the place at least hold onto that refund/payment to the renter until it goes in front of a judge. They can send the renter a letter saying the balance is being held until a judge decides the case! Ugh scums I'll tell ya! I would stop buying high priced units unseen. Just take them all as scams until a law gets passed. It's hurting buyers now and it will make it so it hurts storage places when nobody bids more then 200.00 for a unit and the places get stuck having to carry out the trash that was this unit. Then maybe they will see what your saying. You also need to tell them to watch the video. Ugh! I would start calling your elected officials and get a law passed as this is 110% scam! I think also because the storage place sold it online it would be a scam against them because they posted online and not in person I would report it to the FCC and also FBI for a what's now a common Scam! And get the ball moving on getting a law in place before so many go under because loosing their shirts to this clear scam! They should get jail time also!

Easy solution in my mind, let me know if this makes sense to you. Make it so that any time a storage unit sells for above what the original renter owes the facility, the difference is donated to a charity like St Judes. Takes away the incentive to scam, helps people in need, facility still gets whats owed to them,and makes the auction scene safer for buyers by getting rid of the scammers by taking their money away. Everyone wins except for the potential scammer! What do you guys think?

In Denmark, you cannot buy storage space in the same way as in the USA. Here, storage rooms that are not paid for by the tenant are sent directly to an auction house, which then auctions of the contents. There after the storage room owner gets what they are owend, and the rest of the money goes to the state...the former tenants of the storage room get none of the profit.

Yes I agree. Most auctions, dont they have to catalog everything in the units. That way the auction house knows what value is in the units for an starting bid. At auction houses you see the products and bid on them. It seems the auction company would want to cover themselves from any wrong doing

I owned a storage facility for years and I really think you'd have a very difficult time proving that was the intent, especially if they could show they had the contents of the boxes they could just say we were saving the original packing. I kind of agree with you but you'd have to prove it. I had my facility in a state that didn't require auctions at that time. you could go into a unit and look through it not just take a picture from the door, and if it wasn't worth dealing with you could just trash it. Also, you could just open the door and do like a garage sale right out of the unit and then give the renter a chance to pick up what's left and trash it if they didn't want it. I agree with you it's probably a scam, but I have seen units that look great but aren't several times through the years that the renters had no chance to get anything out of it. Also, in our area if you sold it for more than they owed, you put whatever you got over what's owed in an escrow account and it was the renters responsiblity to ask if you sold it for more, you didn't have to notify them. Then after 90 days you could keep it. I never did, I only ever had one unit bring more than was owed and I called the renter up and gave it to him.

The storage unit supervisor that you talk to about the fake storage unit, the supervisors said one of his employees look through the storage unit before they put it up for auction, so the supervisor knew that there was nothing in there of value and knew it was all empty boxes in it, but they still put it up for auction to make sure they would get their money at least that's all they're worried about. The supervisor said he had one of his employees go through the storage unit first before they put it up for auction, they still sold it anyway knowing that it's all empty boxes. They should be held accountable for selling that storage unit, as well as the guy that defaulted on it too. Because they're doing the same thing as the guy that defaulted on the storage unit...

I actually don’t think it’s the renter fault it’s the storage unit I believe they staged everything!! They took the goods for sure especially knowing if he had money (.renter) I would go after the storage unit definitely set up and scanned there are the ones who take the pictures so the first to know what’s inside . I never knew that either. Rules need to be changed so that the storage units hold the money in escrow (or something). If the storage unit turns up empty of what shows in the photos, then that money automatically gets refunded to the person(s) who bid in it. It’s a win win and it should help stop this nonsense. Crooks will have to get a new day job. 😂

I am with you. The people who are renting the unit. Once the unit defaults, the manager should go in and inspect the unit before they put the unit on the internet for bidding on. The rental place should be held particularly responsible. So once they know it is fraud, then they should not send the money to the scammer.

An easy way to slow this down would be for auction sites snd storage companies to have a specific rule. Any unit under, say, 6 months, can only be auctioned for the amount owed to the storage company. It would end a lot of this stuff. I doubt many would pay for 6 months, then default.

Honestly I keep boxes like that for expensive breakable items. I don’t always break them down either especially if they have protective styrofoam inside to keep the item from being scratched or broken. I do that with boxes that I collect old packing peanuts and air pillow popping sheets too (I don’t always want to spend the money to buy more and can only find the small packing sheets, plus it’s wasteful to throw them away when you can recycle ♻️ them, I’m @n@l like that 🤷🏻‍♀️). Granted those boxes are labeled packing materials and yes they’re taped as are the boxes with styrofoam. I didn’t even know people did things like this honestly and yes you’d think the person could pay for it with those jobs. I have to wonder if he/she isn’t full of it on some of them though. I mean NASA? Come on now. I’ve never heard of a center in NC. I mean I can ask my childhood bf because her hub does work in Orlando (he’s an engineer). Now if it were the Capitol/Virginia (Langley) area then yeah maybe 🤔. But I’m honestly not buying it. Something stinks, and it isn’t the last unit… Now I could be wrong, but when I saw that I was immediately suspicious. How long did they have the unit before they lost it? Could it have been something like mine and something happened to the owner? I mean yeah it could be a scam, but it could be any other number of reasons too. I’m really curious to watch this unfold and find out what happens. It really sux that you paid so much and ended up with such a 💩unit. I hope things get cleared up for you. I'm sorry this has happened to you. Unfortunately, the best bet is to take them to civil court. To prove criminal fraud, you would have to show that the unit owner and the storage company conspired to run this scam. It's difficult. I'd definitely consult an attorney to see what your options are.

This could also be an inside job as the manager said he talked to the owner and there was valuable possession in it. I know how the process works as I ran storage units as an assistant manager. District Manager and the manager of the property go and inventory the units they can go inside to inventory before sale. I also know of several managers and assistants that have been arrested for breaking into units after the inventory process and overlock with a company lock and a tag that can be manipulated by the person placing on the door. The storage facility could also have a fault as they are enabling people to do this. Your new at this still and hopefully you will be able to get your Precedent.

Wondering if the storage owner own an auction business too? KZbinr in Ohio went through something very similar 3 weeks ago and the guy is going to jail. Story sounds so similar. Hope it all pans out because you guys do many good things for your community! PS The manager you spoke with has to know what’s going on! If it were me, personally for the good name of business I would be checking into this but he is like “oh well” Wonder if he or the company makes a % too! It all sounds very suss! Hope you win!!!

So sorry to see this scam happening! Good thing you film your opening of the boxes. The judge will be able to see all the empty boxes. I do hope you truly pursue the legal action. One of your followers had an awesome idea to set a policy and send the profit from the sale to a charity. At least that way the money goes to a good cause. If the owners have to sign and acknowledge that clause in their rental contract the fraud will stop. If it continues at certain facilities after changing the policy, then you know the facility is corrupt. Best wishes to you guys. Hope you win your case.

You should call or write your state/federal senator and explain what is happening. It is how you make your living and they can write legislation to better regulate it. You can also contact news station and see if they would be interested in doing a story on it. Lots of local stations have consumer advocate reporters.

Amber is incredible at getting the point across nicely and slowly getting a little more stern if she senses the employee's might be deceiving them, while staying professional. Good on you guys documenting everything. It seems the unit owners have a pretty good scheme going. I'd say research the laws in every state and stick to the ones with better laws. Cop seemed pretty cool and I agree where he said, "you are taking the chance and if it looks too good to be true, then you might pass". I say follow up with the civil then be careful when the units look too good.

I am totally surprised that the owner gets the difference back!! Wow, that's the whole problem there. They don't actually take a loss or learn a lesson, by not paying in most instances. The storage unit should get all the money from auctions, as its time and effort for them to hold one in the first place and if its high dollars - donate to food banks or whatever.

It works the same way with Homes that are foreclosed on and sold to get the bank back the money loaned - anything it is sold for above what was owed is sent to the property owner - the Law was enacted to keep banks from foreclosing on poor people that owed a few hundred dollars and taking away homes worth tens of thousands and keeping the excess. Any funds above what was owed is still the property owners - the property was auctioned to cover the debt and any excess still belongs to the original owner of the property that was auctioned.

So I met a guy who admitted to me that he stages units and is friends with facility managers of storage facilities he bragged to me how he takes all his leftovers from buying units and estates instead of having a yardsale or trashing it he stages units then splits it with the manager of the facility!!!! I was blown away by his story I wish I got more info out of him but we were at a bar and just struck up the conversation when he heard me talking about a storage unit I bought and won big

This is a huge scam and should not be allowed. Some people make their living doing this. Try contacting district attorneys office in that state and see what can be done. Good luck. Love your videos. Keep them coming

First I am very sorry that this happened to you and I am sorry for the financial loss. With that being said I think you should fight to have a law put in place that would block a storage facility from sending a check to anyone who has so blatantly set up a unit like this you could write the governor or whoever starts this chain and work your way up start a petition you could even start an internet petition I know everyone that watches your videos would sign it use those names to help further your idea long, just start with Virginia I definitely think you're right this has to change
