+AirflowNZ *Thanks for this demonstration of a tricky propfighter.* Central Engineering Bureau Type 12 as designed by Nikolai Nikolaevich Polikarpov was practically a Granville Brothers racer scaled up for the Bristol Jupiter (as adapted for Russian tooling by Arkadij Dmitrievich Shvetsov) packing retracting mainmounts - a revolution in the early 1930's - and two 7.62x54R _Shpitalnogo-Komaret'skogo Aviatsionnij Skorostrel'nij_ synchroguns. The I-16 had to be flown with authority due to its marginal longitudinal stability.

There is/was a replica 'GeeBee' racer which had the same barrel-like appearance as this fighter: it could stay in flight while on its side, using fuselage lift. Polikarpov managed to earn a death sentence in the late '30s but survived until 1944.
@vladimirkasperovih59237 ай бұрын
@@None-zc5vg About Polikarpov's death sentence, this is the nonsense of a liberal. Nikolai Polikarpov was never arrested, even after the death of the famous test pilot Chkalov on his I-180 plane. Chkalov, Baidukov, Belyakov were the first to fly through the north pole of the Earth to the United States on an ANT-25 plane without landing.
