Hey Vaughn. I just caught a glimpse of this and did some polishing on my own expanders and mandrels. It's a good idea. That way, you minimize distortion when these devices put pressure on the neck. Thanks!

Right on man.!

Would it just not be easier to put the expander in the dremmel, or a drill, and make it rotate instead of the tool? :)

Sure is!

New to reloading… Set up my a brand new lee breech reloader press with lee ultimate fl die and wow! The force it took on the up and down stroke I thought was going to rip the press off the table. Took the die apart and the expander finish looked like a 5 year old made it. Lines and grooves I could feel with my fingernail hearing them catch and click. Brass body was lubed and inside the neck, die was set properly to the shell holder, backed off a quarter turn….needless to say it was frustrating. Guess I got to polish it.

You would be surprised how hard it is to take 1/10,000th of an inch off polishing that expander mandrel....

I noticed my hornady new grade full length sizing die that the expander already looked polished. Should i still polish?
@br47133 жыл бұрын
It would not improve anything, polishing would reduce the expander diameter and increase the neck tension

I love Redding competition bushing dies they are amazing.

Do you know if it is possible to adapt an expander on it ? With the appropriate bushing size It would be perfect

No problem, it was fun making it and I needed to get that die done to.

Oh, polish. Here i am thinking you had some super secret expander from Poland.

Would it not be easyer to put in in a drill. And put the compound on a decent rag. Less mess to clean and no chance of making it out of round. Take some electrical tape and cover the treads. The compound does the work not the wheel

This may be a dumb question but can you take it off the stem and tumble it?
@precisionleadthrowing46282 жыл бұрын
Lol, you could also drive over it or sandblast it ;). Nope, don’t tumble thin long things with threads that needs to be straight and accurate. It’s tough and it might be ok but things can go wrong and you want to be in control of what’s going on and you can’t really polish in a tumbler
