Sights are high because of how polish soldiers are being trained, rifle does not cover so much area of sight with its chassis, people who designed Beryl sights had in mind that most important in real combat is comftable and ergonomic handeling of a rifle in close combat. It is far more likely to fight on short distance, indoors etc than 400+ meters shooting when you need more comftable, lower sights. With higher sights your posture is more natural for combat, that was the constructors idea after geting opinions from Polish veterans, that is what my grandfather have told me, he was there when both Tantal and Beryl was being tested and designed. Good video. Cheers.

@@weasle2904 yeah that's what soldiers complaint the most about, we had to go with them otherwise we would have to conduct many small expensive modifications in vehicles and bases, in the 90s during introduction of beryl we had bad economic situation called ,,transformation period" when we were abandoning comunism and rebuilding the country meaning crisis, high inflation, gangs, high gun violence (aprox 5-6 big shootings with over 3 shot happened between 1989-2005, more than through whole history up to that point and after that all together) and corruption, country had to be reconstructed and we didn't have much money for that kind of things and soldiers had to deal with it (just as the rest delt with their problems) eventually when money was there it was somewhat corrected in mid 2000s but it's still a bit of an issue.

Didn't realise you guys did the Beryl 'til today And despite the fact you had to use a non-magnified optic and had some harsh winds, you still were able to complete the course As you said, the setup you had isn't the most optimal but it's what the Poles used, and you were able to get it to work Just to add, I have tried to use an EoTech optic on a dust cover AK Rail paired with an M4 style stock and a Zenitco PT1 stock With the M4 style stocks without cheek riser or makeshift riser, you can get a chin weld, not amazing for precision shooting but if you want a wide angle view for CQB, it's perfect. With the zenitco stock, there is a little rise and you can adjust but I do feel that the rear end is a little thin to comfortably chin weld. All in all, high rise as it is, it can work. But once you have the option to adjust the setup to suit your needs, I imagine you guys would setup a Beryl in a way that'd be comfortable for shooting targets up to 500y Great video as always

The Pols are pretty chill guys. My last contract in Afghanistan there was a really cool officer I met in the Terminal at BAF that let me hold his SBR Beryl. That was my first time seeing a Beryl and I thought it was just the coolest shit ever. It had the quad rail setup with a 512 mounted high up top. I complimented him on how beautiful of a setup it was and he complimented my issued xm15, which wasn't near as cool as his Beryl. He said something along the lines of, looks are good but going bang when you need it to is what matters.

They used excess grease in the barrel, which resulted in a large flare and a powerful bang. This weapon withstood it. In addition, it was resistant to dust, unlike the Spanish HK which after a few shots stopped working. In addition, initially Poles solders themselves bought optical sights for their own means. The only problem with these weapons was too weak a force refuting the cartridge. My friend used the old Polish AK-MS alone for a 7.62 cartridge. It worked Thank you for the Polish National Anthem.
