This is similar to how I've done headlights in the past. However, a better result would be achieved with an orbital wet sand and follow up with a heavy cut buff or polish. A buff alone will get rid of the oxidation to some degree, but you will still have a bit of scratches visible after. Wet sanding will remove more material faster, giving you a lot clearer finish after a buff. With headlights, you have a bit more material to work with versus clearcoat on body panels. The more sanding you do, the closer you will get to achieving a glass like finish. Always use a UV protectant after buff/polishing unless you want to repeat the entire process in a month or two.

Sanding and buffing works but you have to paint it with clear for it to last very long

@@mkteku I have just sanded and polished several times and once I did use some clear spray paint but isn't great I think like a 2k clear is probably the play but I don't really have any experience with it I just know they only look good for a couple months and look pretty bad in about a year without some coating

Why are you using that grinder as a buffer.. the rpms are way to high for that size of pad..

Man, Nice video, great results! I've been looking at polishers. A market that frankly pisses me off. I have the DEWALT tool line. Dewalt and others easily could have made fewer tools with more functionality, but instead they're slightly different to force you to buy more tools - if you can afford it. So I'm trying to find hacks for making more uses of my tools. You helped me see how a battery variable speed orbital sander can replace many polishing needs. If I had more of a voice in the market, I'd scream about the Venn diagram of polishers and angle grinders. Same spindle thread, simply different speeds, variable vs. fixed.

You see the new milwaukee detail orbital sander? I think that would be perfect for this job

I’m curious how this would work on cars paint?

Its a 5in random orbital so I think with a 5in pad or 6in just to be safe, it would work great! … just as long as you have a large enough battery or enough of them to complete the job. Sure beats doing it by hand!!

Definitely make sure you're not on setting 4. I'm pretty sure even setting 1 is too fast. Typically you'll be between 1-1.6k and almost never more than 1.8k. Setting 1 one that thing goes to I think 8 or 10k. So you better have WAY more control than that guy or your paint is gone lol.

It hurt my eyes watching him polishing this headlight...
