I got the same flat lap I've been going to town with making guitar picks and what ever shapes i can come up with, I do need the dope stick though I ground my fingers to much, but great job on the price you made any visual help is appreciated 🍻
@RockHoundingAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Oh cool, that’s a great idea, I may have to try making a guitar pick never thought of that. Thanks for that idea. Dobbing sticks help but if you buy one new make sure to by extra wax cause the wax that comes with it is much harder to work with cause it takes hours to melt it when the directions say 20 mins 😅

I'm new at this. What grit of sanding pads did you use, from start to finish? 100? 220, 400, 600, 800, 1500? Sure would like to know, Thanks!
@RockHoundingAdventures2 жыл бұрын
So on the flat lap I start with the #80 or #180 Diamond disc to shape, then move to the Diamond polishing discs, #220 (purple), #325 (brown), #600 (red), #1200 (blue), #3000 (orange), then move to the felt pad using the #14,000 Diamond paste (pink). I just started using cerium oxide paste and that works great as well for the final polishing stage. What tools do you use to cut and shape your stones? Like what is the wheel and how are you cutting your stone? (Sorry amateur trying to make my own stuff)
@RockHoundingAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, I’m glad your getting into the hobby. If you need any help just ask. I use the Hi-Tech Diamond 6” Slab saw with a thin sintered diamond blade to cut my rocks. Here is the link for that saw: hitechdiamond.com/collections/saw-machines/products/6-inch-trim-saw?aff=51 I think it runs about $470. (comes with 3 different blades) If that is too expensive I started out with this 7” Skil Wet Tile Saw that is approximately around $85. It comes with a decent blade. amzn.to/3O48Xp6 To shape my stones I use 2 discs on my 8” HiTech Diamond Flat Lap. The first one is the #80 grit if there is a lot of shaping to do then I use the #180 grit disc. After I’m done shaping I move on to the next stage which is the purple #200, then go up from there 320, 600, 1200, then felt pad with polish. The flat lap by Hi-Tech I think is the best on the market for it’s size, price, and portable. It’s very useful. Here is my affiliate link for that. hitechdiamond.com/collections/lap-machines/products/all-u-need-rock-mineral-model?aff=51
