Got this for $6 back in May of 2019. Going to use it for spare parts.

Green 3M pads followed by gray 3M pads work pretty well....then proceed to fine polishing.

What machine/puffing pad or paper is on there? I have been using 3000 grit sand paper, but it gets no where near that shin
@VacLab Жыл бұрын
It's a buffing wheel and polishing compound. No sandpaper being used here.

Thank you for making this video. I've watched a lot of polishing videos and for whatever reason yours seems the most easy to understand method and technique. A lot of other people are doing all this sanding and stripping and using about 10 different sticks just to get something the same as you did. I see you are a menards shopper too. I bought the same sticks, and I found that same package of steel wool at goodwill for 25 cents. lol What size are those buffing wheels? I got a 1930s Sears Roebuck polisher on eBay though for $80. I always get older tools over new ones - especially electric tools. Has splatter guards and a lamp on it. It has a big cast iron pedestal stand too that you bolt it onto, but that will be for when I get more money.

I use 6" buffing pads but I hear my cheap buffer might handle up to 8".

Cool, I will add that to the list. Mine has buffing pads on it that came with it from who knows when, but they are pretty clapped out and the layers are separating. I didn't want to get projectile frisbees flung at my head. lol

I told Corey to contact you about how to polish his Kirby's up because they really could use it. He just needs to know what compound to use with his Harbor Freight car polishers to buff them out. Nice buffer too!

We spoke about this last week. He said he had buffers, but wanted to know how to hand polish. So I let him know about Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish.

VacLab I got mothers mag and it works amazing I just thought I would try it

This Kirby and I share the same age lol. Will this thing be restored to actually being able to use it level? Or just totally for spare parts?
@VacLab5 жыл бұрын
Not planning to ever use it. Just swap parts.

I don’t understand what that machine is or the stuff you’re using that came in a stick.
@VacLab5 жыл бұрын
That machine is a buffer/polisher and those sticks are the various polishing compounds.

What color of polishing compound do you use mainly
@VacLab4 жыл бұрын
I start with black and finish with white.

I don’t know if you said it in the video but what is the exact date this machine was made. Like the month is what I am wondering?

It's already fully back together and running. The handle flops down of course. Stay tuned for the G5 disassembly video.
