Alfred, around truck stops they have chrome wheel polish shops and they do tanks, fuel tanks and they would love to do those pontoons. Nice job so far and get some semichrome polish at the bike shops.

Alfred, if I had not seen this with my eyes, I would not have thought that shine possible. And while we didn’t see the entire polishing process, you showed us enough to make us fully appreciate such labor-intensive work. Take a bow, Capitán Grandpa! Take a bow!

Looking killer man! make sure you clear those shiny toons Alfred, or theyll be dull again in a couple months...waterproof lacquer or 2k clear works great on mine they shine for abiut two years and then recoating is easy

Looking good Alfred, your going to blind everyone when that sun reflects off of it but looks awesome. A little safety tip, keep thar acetone can sealed, acetone has a high flash point, one spark is all it takes even in a well ventilated area. careful where you leave your rags also.

Lovin' it! More of this series. I think I'd hit the bracketry and all of that type of stuff first. One "slip" with the sander could score up some nice polish work. Get that grandpa boat all polished up and it'll be faster than the sunk Verado fine tune video, with just that little 35hp on it. LOL After the "red", hit it with some Mother's Billet mag wheel polish.

To get into the crevices, use what's called a "sanding mop." These have an arbor and fit on a powered buffer. They're available in most all sandpaper grits...it will save you hours of handwork. Some are made of strips of sandpaper, and some are a material like Scotchbrite. They really work well and are worth the cost.
@dansouchuck8918 Жыл бұрын
Looks awesome.. all that hard work and time polishing I'd add a 4" or 6" fascia board around the deck and add LED strip all the way around.. I like it👍

Hey Alfred, hi from the UK. Total respect for the effort you are putting in on the pontoons. They look the biz gleaming like that. It looks like you are going to do the lot so PLEASE coat them with something to stop the tarnish coming back... it would break my heart to see them dull and lifeless in a few weeks, once the boat is back in the water. Your arms will be extra ripped when you're done..😂

When you get all polished just don't get it wet. corrosion acts as a protector of the base metal. be careful on the type of bottom paint you use, make sure it is for aluminum.

You need to seal the bottom of that deck with spray sealer or it's gonna rot out really fast. Use the undercoating spray for vehicles it works really good and is less expensive than most.

2000 grit before polish and it'll be a mirror. When you're done hit it with a good heavy coat of 2k clear. It will stop it from oxidizing again.

Hey Alfred, what if you used a polishing pad with polishing compound instead of sandpaper? Are you not messing with the integrity of the tubes when you're sanding the metal? I've done chrome old car pieces with the polishing compound and it brought back the shine without damaging the metal.
@Leo-mt7qr Жыл бұрын
It’s worth it brother! It’s not every worth paying someone to do it. It’s a ton of work to get it to shine then you’ll feel obligated to maintain the shine over the year. Put bottom paint and call it a day. Scrap the project and buy a running boat. You’ll be on the water asap. Besides, you can dedicate your time to something more worthy.
