The vinyl and the glue aren't the problem. You didn't do the prep work. You have to float the seams and holes with some floor patch material first. You tried to use the glue to do that and that won't work because you have to use a flooring roller on top of the vinyl after you lay it down, and that pushes all the extra glue and air bubbles out the sides. You'll have the same problem with thicker vinyl and different glue. It's the same as a paint job if you don't do any prep work it's going to look like chit

@Alfred Montaner thanks for the great videos. Here are a few pro tips. 1. Always use the forstner bits FIRST to recess the bolt heads. You'll have a nice dimple at the bottom of a hole so your twist drills will stay centered and you won't have crooked bolts through the deck and frame. 2. Use square head bolts so the decking can be easily chiseled to a square recess so they don't spin. 3. Forget "Floor Adhesive".... too thick and wavy for thin material. Contact Cement is your friend and actually works better with a smooth surface(no need to scuff surface and potentially go through the sealer). It won't matter that you have thin vinyl because contact cement is very thin as well. Just use a roller and work from the MIDDLE doing it it 2 halves. Take your time for NO air bubbles. Lay the vinyl and get it square. Pull back half of it(I like to go diagonally). Once the first half is glued, it will guarantee that the second half is straight. Edit: BTW, I would NOT seal the wood on all sides. Those holes that you drill trough it will allow ingress of moisture with no way to escape if it were sealed on all sides. That's the reason why siding of a house is not painted on all sides. All wood must breath because it will eventually get wet. Moisture doesn't kill plywood but CONSTANT moisture does. Just my 2 cents. No criticism just trying to help.

The reason you DON'T seal the bottom of the plywood is that it traps moisture in and accelerates rot, mold and mildew. Leave it unsealed sot moisture can dry out.

Good learning experience but you should have replaced the 3/4" plywood and sealed it on all sides and used flat head screws or flat head allens instead of the carriage bolts, great looking material, you can apply what you learned on the next one 👍 You know BOAT is just an acronym for Break Out Another Thousand ! 😂😅
@samgentile7494 Жыл бұрын
Alfred, sorry to tell you this but you are throwing money down the toilet in tying to keep the costs down. I am telling you this because I am tying to help you create a safe vessel for your family. You need to use 3/4" "Maine Grade" plywood. And coat both sides of it with fiberglass resin and cloth if you want it to last. The work is the had part, and you will have to do it again and again as it will not last very long tying to do it cheaply. It is the LONGEVITY of the work we do that adds value and saves us additional work and costs. Do it right and it will last 20 yeas without any additional wok or cost. Please, Open you eyes Alfred and carefully look at the bottom of the original plywood deck. It is splitting and cracking and beyond it safe useful life. Once that old original layer of plywood gets wet and absorbs some water it will flex like a rubber band. That thin sheet of 3/8" non-marine grade plywood you added atop the original sheet does absolutely NOTHING to add to structural integrity. Alfred, I am an Old Sailor with over 50 years of boat repair experience. Trying to do it fast and cheaply will cost you more and more money and wasted time, and leave you with a structurally unsafe vessel for you family. There is no such thing as 'overbuilt' when it comes to vessel structural integrity. Bloop, Bloop, Bloop.

Siempre ha sido un paso adelante y dos hacia atrás. When you have a carriage bolt that spins, put a small blob of gel CA ('superglue') on the flat bottom of the bolt head and tap it in. Give it a shot of accelerator, and then spin the nut on.

Use Nylon Washers. Don't let the Stainless Steel touch the Aluminum. You will have Galvanic corrosion, also known as bimetallic corrosion, is an electrochemical process whereby one metal corrodes in preference to another metal that it is in contact with through an electrolyte. Galvanic corrosion occurs when two dissimilar metals are immersed in a conductive solution and are electrically connected.

During assembly, some anti-seize is never a bad thing. You have stainless steel and aluminum contacting each other, electrolysis can happen, especially when you add salt water into the mix. Would renting a roller have helped to bed the adhesive more uniformly? I'm not sure about that type of flooring on a boat deck though. Might work fine with boat shoes, but more people are going to be wearing flip-flops. Hope no one busts their ass when it gets wet and a little fish slime added to the mix.
