Political Deadlock, Street Clashes In Paris After Left Alliance’s Impressive Show In Elections

Riot police in Paris firing tear gas shells amid a clash after the projected results from France's parliamentary election were announced.
The results of the second round of voting threw up a surprise win for the left wing alliance.
And as fans celebrated in the heart of Paris, things turned violent, with the Leftist supporters clashing with those backing the right wingers.
Despite the Left’s unexpected victory and the alliance being the single largest, the second round of elections threw up a hung parliament
President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance came second, and Marine Le Pen's nationalist, eurosceptic National Rally, which opinion polls had predicted would be the largest party, came third.
A three-way split in parliament with three groups having no tradition at all of working together is bad news for France.
The Right says crucial issues such as immigration will now take a back seat. The Left says the outcome a big relief for those who make up what it called New France.
What happens next is quite unclear. Outgoing prime minister Gabriel Attal called it an unprecedented political situation for a country that hosts the Olympics in a matter of weeks.
President Macron who called the snap election after the far right’s impressive performance in the EU polls now finds his authority weakened.
