As an emergency physician, I get almost daily offers for work in several states. The first thing I do is look up the abortion and LGBTQ+ laws. If they are restrictive, my response to the job offer is "I do not anticipate working in a state where women's/human rights aren't respected." Has anyone researched whether there is a shortage of physicians in those states as a result? And whether med school graduates applying for EM and OB/gyn residencies are avoiding those states? I suspect they will become healthcare deserts, and not just for women of childbearing age.

I live in New Jersey, which is a very liberal state and sadly there's a shortage here of OB/GYN's so please send any doctors this way because it takes months to even get an appointment and I can only suspect maybe some people from Mother's Day are coming here but this has been going on for too long plus, we're completely overcrowded as a small state. I think people think inflation is the same as high prices 🤦🏼‍♀️ prices are high, to be fair, but wages haven’t increased with it and cost of living is high in many places. And while I’ve heard that wages are up, here in Georgia we have a state minimum wage of $5.15 an hour, $2.13 for tipped workers. Yes, state minimums apply in some circumstances so people can get paid that little for their work. We desperately need things like universal healthcare, rent control, lower drug prices, living wage, etc. all things that a democratic majority at the federal and state level can work towards. So long answer short, people on the right just don’t know the definition of inflation 🤦🏼‍♀️

We aren’t seeing it. These are really contentious times, but this is a major issue that is affecting individuals and families that shiny statistics don’t fix. In my state, rent prices and cost of living are one of the biggest concerns. Our state’s Democratic Party wants to enact laws that prevent landlords from increasing rent prices above a certain threshold and over-valuing their properties. I’m actually running for state office and one of the things I plan to do is repeal the tax on groceries in every county and prevent the state from ever doing so. I’m really trying to reach across the aisle to show people that we really want pretty much the same thing at the end of the day, and Dems really do have those values. Not sure what state you live in, but I recommend you look up your state’s parties websites and see what they’re fighting for in your state. Local politicians can be very responsive and receptive

The abortion ad is great. I think there is a lot to be said for simplicity. We can get too in the weeds talking about restrictions in certain states etc. Just having trump say what he did nationally and what the republicans plan to do nationally is powerful. I think you hit the nail on the head with the last point. Beyond its abortion messaging, the words at the end and nonverbals are essential if Ds want to define her image before Rs. I think the ad did that well. While ads focusing on personal stories are more effective for messaging on the abortion issue itself, right now ads should be about defining Harris’s public image.

But this results in people with more money being able to speak louder than those without. And until we eliminate ads, we will have a huge driver to keep money in the political system, thereby corrupting it. The only way that we could end political advertising is to update the Constitution to declare political communication as a unique class of free speech, to be regulated separately.
