Madeleine Albright told us half a million dead Iraqi children were "worth it", while Obama changed drone strike victim counting rules so that if you couldn't actively prove that the 6 year olds that he just killed weren't terrorists then you class them as dead terrorists while he dropped record bombs on Pakistan and Somalia. But yeah, the life of a child, unborn or not, is apparently the most sacred thing to people who oppose abortion and those who oppose unwanted births. Suddenly Bill's racial control suggestion makes a lot more sense.

Democrats and Republicans like to put their own spin on the switch that makes them look good. Democrats will point out that Republicans started pandering to racist southerners and Republicans will point out how only a couple politicians actually switched parties. The reality of the situation is yes the switch did happen during the Civil Rights Era and, much like when the Republicans abolished slavery, it was done for completely political purposes. Both parties had a shitload of racists among their ranks during the Civil Rights Era, but Democrats at the time were convinced by LBJ to bite the bullet and give black people their civil rights anyway for the sake of winning the votes of them and their allies. After that the Democratic party became more socially liberal and the Republican Party became more socially conservative with ideological lines between the two parties becoming far more well established, especially during the Nixon Administration when the Southern Strategy was concocted and abortion was made a lynchpin issue (conservatives barely cared about abortion until Nixon and his cronies told them to). This was exacerbated by the fact that many prominent Civil Rights activists like Jesse Jackson set up camp in the Democratic Party while many conservative activists like Paul Weyrich helped the Republican Party reshape itself and establish modern conservativism.

You are missing something: conservatives didn’t care much about abortion because it was still illegal in the majority of states until the SCOTUS decided to play law-making and bypassed congress and made it legal nationwide. It was a dramatic and abrupt policy change that flamed their values way more than any politician’s plan could have.
@johnsimth6587

@@VincitOmniaVeritas7 Nice historical revision. The thing is we have the tapes and the open admittance of why they switched to abortion. They could no longer rally about "the blacks" and used "abortion" as the new rallying cry, it has and always will be able to suppress other people's rights so they can be superior. The dramatic change was Reagan taking on the Fundamentalist Christians and rebranding them as "Evangelicals" so they could win elections. Bringing in the Falwells as actually "good god fearing people that are the backbone of America" You're right, most people didn't care about abortion until they were told to give a shit so that the GOP could start winning elections again.
@VincitOmniaVeritas7
@VincitOmniaVeritas7 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnsimth6587 “historical revision”? Now you are projecting. And BTW, who rallied against the blacks were the democrats up until the 60s, when they realized they were a solid voting block (just like you said). The republicans were the abolitionist party from the start. The first black senator was republican. The first 23 black members of congress were republicans. It took the democrats 64 years (1934) to elect their first black congressman. Black people were primarily republicans, only switching parties after the Great Depression (and solidifying the switch under LBJ). Meanwhile southern democrats still supported segregation, Jim Crow and were against the Civil Rights Act of 64. The racist history of the Democratic Party is undeniable and equating the republicans with them because the “Solid South” (up until JFK) felt betrayed and switched parties is unfair and revisionist. The Southern Strategy has no historic evidence, specially when you consider Nixon pro Civil Rights Act stance in 64. I’m libertarian and personally I’m not found of any republicans save 2 or 3, but I know enough about history to tell apart who used (and still uses) racial tensions for political gains.

I don’t know what Bills been reading, but the number of black women who get abortions is 5 times higher than white women. So by his rational, pro life folks should be taking bus loads of black women to abortion clinics. But I do believe it’s not a religious issue. I’m not particularly religious myself, but I am pro life. But I don’t mock women for feeling they need an abortion. I just wish more alternatives where available and more affordable.

there already are a ton of alternatives. women have over a dozen options and choices long before pregnancy and excluding murder. you have the pill, the condom, iud, a ton of women clinics and resources for mothers. and women can even give the child up for adoption and even demand child support irrespective if the father wants the child or not. at a certain point you have to realize that either these wahmen winging leftists are too immature, irresponsible and reckless to even have sex and ought to be castrated- or the leftists flat out are not even human as they want to intentionally murder babies for their own selfish narcissm. either they grow up and can be permitted to have sex or they can get castrated. 🤷 hecht women can also practice abstinence which is the cheapest option.

To make a long story short, the 60s was the swap - in fact I'd argue the year was 1964. LBJ (and to a lesser extent JFK) supported the Civil Rights Act which alienated southern democrats. Barry Goldwater supported 'states rights' in 1964 and opposed the Civil Rights Act which made him the first Republican to win the south since the civil war. Nixon and Reagan followed Goldwater's strategy and made the Republicans more conservative; meanwhile the Democrats picked up the hippy/youth vote from George McGovern onwards, skewing them in a liberal direction.

They even proposed a March on Washington which got Roosevelt to push anti discrimination laws when working with the government. And more black leaders became part of his government and influence . Truman desegregated the military too. A more radical wing of the party tried well into 1864 (the year of his run for a second term) to dump him and actually held a convention that nominated John C. Fremont as the Radical approved candidate (he was also the 1856 Republican nominee) in the hopes that Lincoln might drop out entirely -- into the Summer of 1864 Lincoln's reelection prospects were actually considered by many to be quite gloomy. Lincoln technically ran under a party named National Union and further angered radical Republicans by nominating a War Democrat as his 1864 Vice President (Andrew Johnson, who would later become president and was tied loyally to the Democrats and the idea of a mostly painless reunion after the war). Fremont only withdrew in September as it was clear that he could only play a spoiler role and that Lincoln was the best of the winnable options, sort of a hold your nose and vote Lincoln stance. Victories that Autumn would help galvanize pro-War sentiment and secure reelection for Lincoln.

The party switching is not 100% but is 100% on some issues. For example, from a fiscal perspective it hasn’t switched. From a state right to centralized government perspective it has switched. My, what interesting takes on "The Switch". Look at the voting records. The actual Civil Rights legislation passed because of a majority Republican vote. Of those Republican Congressmen, none of them became Democrats. I came from a family of long time Republicans and, while the older people said some things that would be bad nowadays (as jokes) all of them walked the line of let them find any level of success they can achieve to and they have my respect. (Also the same view they had for White people). None of them or their friends every switched parties. I know in some groups and parts of the country race is a regular topic but among the Republicans I have spent time with, It rarely hits the radar. That includes Republican minorities (And yes they exist). I have known many black people who are absolutely certain the Republicans are evil racists. Then when they get to know us they tend to think we are confused about what our party believes and we are the good ones. But most never bother to look pass this misguided idea of the party switch and all the racists taking over. It's just not what people think. Most Republicans don't understand why we are still talking about race, because we see the poverty issue as a poverty issue not a race issue. We don't get why everyone want this to still exist. In fact we see the race issue as a Democrat concocted issue they won't let die they death is should. As for the south. The push to gain voters in the South was based on their strong anti-communist stance. The Civil Rights fight was over so the average voter switched based on a strong anti-communist views. As they switched they slowly became less interested in the race issues and now they tend to be ambivalent to "The Cause". Democrats did change their point of view. Not because the people switched but because they believed the idea that "Blacks" and other minorities were incapable of taking themselves out of poverty (That was an argument for slavery, by the way) so providing for there care was the only way to keep them from causing trouble. It's not that they liked them now it's just that they thought giving them enough to survive would be good enough. This is why the Democrats never seem to figure out how to solve the problem, even when they have all the power. Because they are still the racists and will always find a way to pander but never provide solutions. Give a good search of historical documents and not books written by someone with an agenda and you will see the facts.

Wanna address why Democrats disarm minorities; over legislates them; over polices them; over charges them; over prosecutes them; over convicts them; and fill prisons to the brim with them? As a minority, I’d rather somebody be racist to my face rather than empower corporations to enslave me with laws YOU never bother to read. What kind of person are you that would advocate to have the sale of loose cigarettes criminalized leading to the death of Freddy Gray? You are either incompetent/oblivious, or you are a straight up tyrant to want so many people rotting in prison.

It was called "the "Southern Strategy"..Dems from the south split with Dems of the north over desegregation attempts and became Republican, thus beginning the cancer that's now fully eaten the GOP. It's not a myth.. It actually happened and Dinesh is a hack of expert level hacks.

Black women are not masterminds. They're just hard headed. Bill and Nia are perfect for each other because he'll let her unwind her points but still inject his own analysis. If only more men were like Bill. Bottom line is just because a white guy is with a black girl, doesn't mean she is wearing the pants, he ALREADY was thinking a certain which is why he didn't want to be with a his own. Ask white people why they are seemingly more entitled this generation?

I'm not really religious or pro-life myself, but it never ceases to amaze me how far folks' rhetorical contortion will go to ascribe perverse motivations to the pro-life crowd; like it's so hard to understand that if you believe the miracle of life starts at conception, it follows that abortions will be an offensive solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Its not far fetched to see the perversion in a crowd that wants to starve living children to death, let them be raped and force them to have children and then claims to care about life with abortion. Its called open hypocrisy, they're not caring about life at all just control. They lie about their beliefs, constantly.
