On Tuesday night, several of Donald Trump's former rivals endorsed the Trump ticket, including former Ambassador Nikki Haley, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Vivek Ramaswamy. Much of the evening focused on the Republican Party's hard-line border and immigration policies. The 2024 Republican platform backs Trump's pledge to carry out the "largest deportation operation in American history" and to stop what it calls a "migrant crime epidemic." We speak with journalist Jean Guerrero, who says what was shown at the RNC was the "politics of hate" and that the Republican Party is not letting up on its "anti-immigrant hatemongering."

Refugees and migrants and even undocumented workers pay billions more into our tax base than they cost in all forms of assistance. Like $60+ billion more over a ten year period. They are not a financial burden. They start paying taxes very quickly. So it’s a total win-win. The only issue is how to best process all the applicants in those first weeks and months, how to provide safety and security and all the background checks and documentation etc and keep immigrant families together and provide temporary work visas etc. We need Congress to pass measures to improve systems.

Important leaders and veterans organizations argued that they weren't good for the gene pool. There were acts that stripped white American women of their citizenship if they married a foreigner.
