Ava, NZ changed policy because a National (=Tory) govt was elected & reversed a lot of Labour policy including the indigenous language Teo Reo. The new PM was a CEO and is a populist.
@AndrewMcColl11 ай бұрын
To clarify a little further, National ran on tax cuts which would be paid for by a tax on foreign home buyers (I think it was). But, they couldn't win enough seats to govern alone, so had to go into coalition with two other parties (Act - libertarians led by a guy who looks like Rimmer from Red Dwarf, and New Zealand First - nationalist party that mainly appeals to old white voters and the 'anti woke'). During the coalition talks, the two parties insisted National scrap their new tax. In order to pay for the cuts, they instead insisted halting Aotearoa Smokefree 2025. This wasn't something National had run on, which put the new Health Minister into a bit of a bind as he was in favour of going smokefree. Oh, and I'm sure it also had nothing to do with one of the senior National ministers having a father who used to work for the tobacco lobby. Nope, nothing. At. All.

I’m afraid I don’t agree with you regarding Sunak relaxing over Christmas. I definitely think he will be relaxing. Anyone with the utter arrogance and self conviction that he has, will not be bothered one jot about anything or anyone other than himself. He doesn’t care about other people whatsoever, so why would he worry? The only thing that might rattle him a little is if he’s not getting his own way about something. He’s an utter disgrace.

Really relate to the not wanting to cause embaressment with gravy etc. Social pressure to eat meat etc really sucks; when you think about it it isn't any more apporpriate to lean on a veggie/vegan to eat animal products than it is try and get a muslim or jewish convert to eat pork, a hindu convert to eat beef, or basically any British person to eat dog. Whilst I 100% empathise with the embarrassment, its important to remember that objectively its the meat eaters that are the ones who ought to be embarrassed in that situation (about their thoughtlessness towards you, among other reasons).

Theres a big chunk of the lgbtqia+ community that doesnt want cops at pride. As private citizens yes but as police officers getting involved with the protest it's bad symbolism for us. The stonewall riots were started by cops so theres a lot of pain there. If they want to police the pride then they can but not get involved. Pride is a protest and with the current political climate we need to remember that

So cringy To a US Cop, bringing up recent deaths they caused to their face... That will sting A brit chanting "i can't breathe" or" my hands are up. Don't shoot" to a British Bobby... @@fomoran I can see your point with BLM. But from the perspective of police officers at pride it still doesn't sit well with me. It feels like pride has become an excuse to have a party rather than actually protest the injustice and inequality the LGBTQIA+ community is facing. Especially at the moment. If we had truly equal rights and were treated the same by everyone then I'd say yeah sure have a party but if it's a protest the police can't be on it's side

Living next to Uxbridge it’s always been Tory, though Johnson as MP halved their majority. The by election was only held by them as Phil from A Different Bias was warning weeks before, they were hiding that ULEZ was Johnson as Mayor policy then imposed on outer London by him as PM, Labour failed to point this out. There are always idiots though, like the Labour canvasser getting an earful about ULEZ from a Tesla owner, plus the latent racism towards a non white London Mayor, if you don’t believe that you did not see some of the anti ULEZ protestors. The seats boundaries are being changed, to incorporate a Labour voting area. But the Tories grabbed at this very narrow win and doubled down on policies that have played badly nationally.

@jonsmith505811 ай бұрын
I’m sure the people with lifelong scars or family members dead are also furious with dangerous breeds roaming the streets. You completely miss the point also. As a society we dont give a flying fuck if you think your dog is nice, firstly you arent an objective source, nobody thinks their dog is an absolute bastard that would kill a kid, secondly, the issue isnt them being nice or not, the issue is, should they get aggressive and attack, could you control them? The answer is no, they are two strong. They can overpower and kill a man. The girl who was attacked by two in the park were on leads but dragged the owner with them when they attacked. Sorry if your dog is uncomfortable in a muzzle, but get some fucking perspective.

There is no evidence that an XL bully is any more dangerous than any other big dog. The government legislation is so dangerously open. We have a mastiff. 10000% not a bull breed but it fills the majority of the requirements to be classed as an XL bully. We live in Scotland, but there's no way we can take him to England
@jonsmith505811 ай бұрын
How do you account for the much higher rate of deaths from XL bullies compared to, lets say, a labrador or a collie? Or is that evidence you choose to ignore?
@TheMatthooks11 ай бұрын
@@jonsmith5058 show me actual evidence. Because I've not seen any credible sources that evidence that any specific breed is more dangerous than any other. Add in that "XL bully" isn't a recognised breed, and that the standards in this legislation could have anything from a large Labrador to a great Dane classified as one. You don't just get to say "what about the evidence? Without quoting the actual evidence. I have no problem with dealing robustly with owners of dogs that are dangerous. But quick legislation is inevitably bad legislation. And it's typical Tory taken to its peak. Make up some evil, whether that be an immigrant or a dog, and then enact poor legislation to show that you're "doing something about it"...
