I still didn't get one thing there are 4 candidates total A B C and D in the first round of counting C got eleminated and his votes got tranfer according to the 2nd preferences. In the next(2nd ) round D got eliminated and his votes got transferred according to 2nd preferences or 3rd preferences?? Just make me clear this only.

Ma'am, something you said are wrong. With due respect let me allow to correct it for users. The 50% +1 criteria is not on 1st preference but for TOTAL votes gained by one candidate. So in your example. If A got 45 votes, that's not 1st preference votes BUT TOTAL votes (including 1st, 2nd, 3rd preference votes for A). So like this we check that who is the candidate having least 1st preference votes among TOTAL votes gained by it. Then rest you said regarding machine discarding ballets of candidates who got less than 50% votes and then machine looks for those voters who gave discarded candidate 1st preference, then machine looks to whom they gave 2nd preference then it adds votes to respective candidates. That's correct Thank you. Hope it helps guys!!

Hi Divyansh, With due respect I beg to differ because as per your explanation each candidate will always get the same total vote(here 100) as all will occupy some position in preference order. So then there is no point in calculating total votes as it will be same for all. That why the 45 is only the no of votes A received at 1st preference by the electorals. If you still think that you are correct, please share the source so that I can correct myself. Thanks a lot
