People judge debates in different ways. Some people judge on charisma, likeability, the way information is delivered, presentation, etc. All things which are important. However, other people judge purely on the information coming out of the person's mouth. Trump lied repeatedly during the debate and for that 33%, that is probably far less acceptable than the man who looks like blinking is a challenge but ultimately spoke in more truths.

If he is, it's easy to prove that. Just have him do open question sessions of, say, 30 minutes or so with reporters several times. No prescreening or limiting of questions though. That would tell the tale. If they don't do that, then I don't trust them, and I think Biden also likely fails to impress in the Sept. debate, and then Trump wins. Since they haven't done that since Feb, I'm not optimistic, but hopeful this would show something. That's a disaster (yes, I'm completely anti-Trump). I still think they'll do something in a week or two. You can only pretend like everything's fine just with a teleprompter for so long.

Trump needed to show that he was presidencial , that he can debate policy , his record and what he would do with things like healthcare . Above all he needed to show integrity and character for the Job . ( he failed 100% ) Biden only needed to show that he had the energy , mental acuity ( ability to reason ,focus and recall information at optimal speeds ) to run the campaign and the country for at least the initial part of his term ( he failed 95% ) . The coping about how people did not like "Trump's demeanor" is laughable. Trump was more restrained and disciplined during that debate than most of would have been. He was very polite and respectful, unlike Joe who was snipey and childish throughout the debate. Trump took it easy on Joe when it would have been real easy to kick him when he was down.

Debates don’t matter. A week from now, nobody will remember or care who won and who lost. Hillary beat Trump 3 times in 2016 and lost the election. Mondale completely whipped Reagan in 1984 and lost 49 states in the election. Debates are not a predictor of who will win in November.

He says it’s not because the last debate Trumps aggressive interruptions which made him look bad. Not in ability but in character as he seemed like an angry guy who must have his way. No one that has said, "Trump lost the debate" knows what a debate is. Like if you take debate in school, one of the challenges they give you is to debate a stance which you KNOW IS FALSE. The object isn't to prove what you say is true, it's to look more confident and convince the viewers of your points. I can't recall one moment in the debate in which Biden demonstrated coherence, let alone a solid point. Trump won the debate. Did he lie? Yes. That has nothing to do with debating.

His base will believe anything he says, his detractors and even those who don’t like Biden already know what he said were lies. These are not NEW lies, but lies about issues that have been proven false-over and over. Trump, the convicted felon stating Biden was a criminal was laughable. Anyone not in his cult believe he won in 2016? Trump was not convincing because his lies were too obvious. This was a poor performance by both men.
