RIP Brad Delp, one of the greatest rock vocalists ever. Incidentally this song has won numerous polls for best rock song of all time. And the story of how Tom Scholz basically created the entire album by himself (except for the vocals) in his basement is legendary.
@michaelmayfield3158 Жыл бұрын
Facts! Tom Scholz did do the entire album except for like 10 month with some vocal. After about 10 months the singer, Brad Delp RIP, realized there was no band. A label company said for the band to come to CA to record and Tommy said no. The label company force a song from the album to be recorded in CA and I think it was "Take Me Home Tonight." I think Tommy was an graduated engineer from MIT and working for Poloroid at the time. Don't quote me on sentence as it has been many years since I watched the Jananese video that was subtitled in English here on youturd.

Long hair was the style back then for young men (and women), starting in roughly the mid-60's and going all through the 70's. When you're young and full of vitality, you can grow some great hair. I grew up in that era, and I had hair so long at one point that it almost reached my belt in the back. We gloried in our long hair! 😊 As for "More Than a Feeling", it might be the most perfectly written and performed rock song of all time. It's certainly in the top 10 or so, if not the best of them all. Between Tom Scholz (who wrote, produced, played most of the instruments on the record, and arranged it all) and Brad Delp (with the utterly amazing vocals) you've got an absolute musical masterpiece in that song. And yes, it does sound like a summer song. Just beautiful.

A monster hit in late 1976, early 1977. It was their debut song on their debut album. Recorded in the garage of Tom Scholz, who wrote the song, and who sent the demo tape to Epic Records, who decided to release the album using that very same demo tape. The song is considered one of the best rock songs, ever. And the album considered one of the best debut albums of all time.
@jacksaintjack2844 Жыл бұрын
It is my understanding that yes, it was recorded in their basement and once the record execs heard it they wanted to set up a time for the band to come into the studio and record it, but Tom Scholz didn't want to. Said it was good as is. So the record execs let the studio wizards listen to it and they said....yes, it's good to go as is. Footnote: Tom Scholz has a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.

This is all bullshit. The demo tape could not be played. It's on KZbin, and you can hear it WANTING to be this album, but on the demo tape, it wasn't even called Hitch a Ride. "California Day". Not a garage, either. It was a full home studio in his basement, and you can't store that equipment in a cold garage. He was an electrical engineer, not a garage band musician, as he's been dubbed by poor researchers. You watched a shortened (single) version of the song. So you know, Boston is Tom Scholz and Brad Delp. Tom wrote, recorded and produced the album in his basement studio. Home studios were extremely rare in the 1970's. Tom plays ALL instruments except drums (played by Sid Hasian) on the album. The phenomenal Brad Delp does ALL lead and harmony vocals. Tom also designed and built custom effects (the powersoak, hyperspace pedal, doubler and later the Rockman amplifier) to create the legendary Boston guitar sound. Fran Sheehan (bass) and Barry Goudreau (guitar) were added as part of the live band.

Polo - you cannot fathom just how huge this album was! Debut album - every single song was a radio-hit single! EVERY SONG! Yes the lead singer (Brad Delph) had some chops. There are usually 3 male vocalists of that era for rock and roll placed in the Mt Rushmore of chops: Delph, Freddie Mercury as you compared, and Steve "The Voice" Perry of Journey. Every has their own order of the top three - none of them are inherently wrong. But most critics will put these three at the top of the list. If you're ready to explore Journey, the go-to gold Standard is their Live 1981 Houston "Escape" tour. Anything from that is heads and shoulders above nearly all other live bands. "Mother-Father" is widely regarded as the greatest live song among them.
