Man, just had flashbacks. I moved in with my grandparents after my grandpa had a stroke that took his left side. He was stuck in a wheelchair, only able to get himself out of it and into his bed and out of bed to take to his lazyboy in the living room. So I lived with them for almost 3yrs to help out with all the day-to-day stuff. The the absolute best time I had during this period was watching reruns of Sanford & Son w/my grandpa. They would play almost every single day in the late afternoon, early evening. Despite him being pretty depressed due to his situation, the hardest laughs he (and we) would have would be watching reruns of this together. Redd was his absolute favorite. Thanks for this reaction. Brought back alot of good memories

I graduated Belmont high school in 1977 I grew up watching this show my favorite. When I turned 21 I went to Las Vegas to see Redd Foxx in concert I will never forget that performance also seen aunt auster do stand up. RIP brother Foxx

He actually wasn’t that old during the filming of this show. He was only 50 in the 70’s. He died filming another tv show called the royal family. That was in ‘91 of a heart attack. But even then mentally speaking he was still very sharp.

One of my favorite shows back in the day😂. And yes, it’s just as funny now as it was then! Lamont is so polite and Fred and ester’s battles were hilarious and still are! This show is a classic along with All In the Family and the Jeffersons, Good Times.. just great comedy!! Miss those shows

Redd Foxx and LaWanda Page had been friends since childhood, and she was his first and only choice to play Esther, Fred's sister-in-law. Producers wanted to fire Page due to her inexperience on-camera, but Foxx threatened to quit the show if Page was fired.

My favorite TV show, I've watched every episode of Sandford and Son at least 30 times and that's being modest. I've had the DVD collection since 1998 all 6 seasons.

Red Foxx was one of my husband’s favorite comedians. He always used to tell me this one of Red’s: “A lot of people think all black men carry guns… that’s not true- my uncle carried an ice pick for twenty years!” 😂😂😂

When I was a kid in the 70's our family doctor always had a lit cigarette in his mouth while in the check up with you,. And yes, Red Foxx was an absolute comic genius, I grew up watching Sanford & Son, all in the family and the Jeffersons, all classic, comedy gold! They had the Jeffersons and the bunkers together on some all in the family episodes, I alway's thought they should have done a Sanford and son episode where Archie bunker visited the junk yard, would have been epic!

RIP Legend. The reason I am a loyal and dedicated fan of raw comedy... Heard his album brown paper bag. And was forever an addict of comedy... And that ensemble. When it came to Sanford and son. I am glad they listened to him. A lot of great talent. And if it wasn't for this show and that man we would have never known they existed. One of the first shows that used black comedy writers for black characters.. A lot of them later on becoming great Legends of comedy and acting themselves........

You need to remember that Sanford and Son was Redd Foxx toned down for TV. If you really want to laugh and see what Redd Foxx is all about you need to check out some of his stand up.

You’re making me feel very old. 😂 I’m 54. When you talk about Redd Foxx being very sharp at that age, remember he was only 50 years old when the show debuted! And was around 55 when the original series ended. (That’s not to say he didn’t remain very sharp for years afterwards 😉).

Thank you for this. Oh man this is nostalgia. If you haven't seen it yet, you should check out Harlem Nights. It's a hilarious '90s comedy set in Harlem during prohibition days. It has an all-star cast including Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Della Reese, Arsenio Hall, and so many others that you'll recognize. One of my favorite movies of all time. (btw, I'm not asking this as a reaction request. Just saying that you should watch that movie cuz it's well done and stupid hilarious.)

Isn't it sad that comedies can't be this great. Political correctness & thin skinned people's, have done a disservice to RED FOXX, RICHARD PYROR, GENE WILDER, LARREL & HARDY, FREDDY PRINCE, ECTRA!!! SANFORD & SON WOULDN'T BE ALLOWED ON TV TODAY.
