Fly away on wings of wind To native lands, our native song, To there, where we sang you freely, Where we were so carefree with you. There, under sultry skies, With bliss the air is full, There, to the whisper of the sea, mountains doze in the clouds. There, the sun shines so brightly, Bathing [our] native mountains in color. In the meadows, roses bloom luxuriously, And nightingales sing in the green forests; And sweet grape grows. There is more carefree for you, song… And so fly away there!

A fabulous production, such as only the Russians can create. The singing, dancing, costumes, stage production, all wonderfully executed, and of course Borodin’s marvellous music, with that incredibly beautiful first theme, all magnificently performed. Please Russia, stick to what you do so well and do not do what you do so horribly.

There is nothing but praise and admiration I felt by this world class production from the Kirov Ballet, to bringing this difficult operatic piece in such a virtuoso way to the viewers' pleasure.

Whenever I listen to this theme melody, my imaginary eye fly to the boundless steppes with grass swinging by the wind, and Eurasian tribal tents silently belching smoke, and horses silently grazing by the tents. Borodin was truly a Eurasian dreamer. Only a Russian composer can come up with melody like this.

I have watched this performance many times on the Internet and always felt this is the soul of Russia. The dancing always captivates me (the music as well, of course), but who is that lead male dancer? Whatever happened to him? Who was he? Such talent, he really captured something. You just don't see such energy and phenomenal talent. Does anyone know who he is?

All my time, I've been alone Deep in my vision mind, I'm building roads Longing for the magic night to take the day, So I can kill my wings of war and dream away, Yeah Hear my cry, I feel alone, I m lost in a winter storm, where love is cold Listen to the raging sound of a lonely man, I'm one with a silver moon above the desert land, Oh! Yeah, yeah! I've traveled across the world to the darker side, In my mind the shadows, growing mad On and on we seek the sky to fly before the foe, Fury when I sing to you, this is our time to live and die! Frozen pain behind your eyes, I see your heavy chains and ghostly cries Whoa, endlessly it s time to burn, I know your bleeding heart, your soul can return! Yeah, yeah, yeah! Oh! Through the land moves a lonely wind, So lonely, so lonely

The ladies danced like wounded birds. Kind of flowy and stiff at the same time. I have NO idea what is going on, but it seems beautifully solemn. edit: until the men jumped in and it went to straight emotional chaos! I didn't know whether to feel elated/excited or scared! Amazing performance even when one doesn't understand the history. ❤
