"Poltava" was a 54-gun ship of the line of the Russian Navy that was launched on 15th of June, 1712 from Saint Petersburg.
The ship was named after an important for Russia victory over the Swedish Empire in the Battle of Poltava and became the first battleship laid down and built at the St. Petersburg Admiralty.
In the 1710s, the ship was sometimes visited and commanded by Peter I, who also took active part in the design and construction of the ship.
During her service of 1712-1732, Poltava was part of the Baltic Fleet, and before the end of Great Northern War participated in six marine campaigns (1713-1717 and 1721). Poltava was decommissioned in 1732.
In June, 2013, the group of shipbuilding enthusiasts with support of "GazProm", a large Russian company founded in 1989, which carries on the business of extraction, production, transport, and sale of natural gas, began the construction of the exact copy of "Poltava" according to it's original project.

It's good that you show maritime history of Russia. Many believe that only Great Britain built large Ships-of-the-Line. But Russia has had a glorious naval history. Russia needed a viable navy in order to protect it's vast Baltic, Black Sea and Pacific coasts. The maritime tradition remains integral in Russia's place among the World's Super Powers.

Russian Russian Navy is considered to be founded in 1696. but in the 10th and 11th century the Russians fought with Byzantium on the black sea, more than 1000 years ago and then there were huge boats of them numbered from hundreds to thousands. It was a huge fleet

The first attempts at naval construction were undertaken by Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, the father of Peter I. The frigate Oryol ("eagle" in English) was built in 1669. But Russia did not have full access to the sea, and only Peter, who won the mouth of the Neva from the Swedes, systematically approached the creation of a navy.

@@johannlingmarr8406 Very interesting, thank you. During the late Cold War period, we were in The Sea of Ohktosh, and not surprisingly we saw quite a bit of The Russian Fleet out of Vladivostok....from their perspective It was akin to a Russian battlegroup in The Gulf of Mexico for us (America) I would imagine. We got "buzzed" by a big "Bear" Bomber....and we didn't have air assets close by, so a Japanese (JDF) F-4 Phantom politely escorted the bomber away from us...fun times😁.
