Hi Julie and Ian, nice work on the plot today, as well as how much work the polytunnel does create, but it sure looks worth it. Driveway is coming along, good to use that old cement to fill it up as well, saves you a ton (literally tons) of gravel and Euros. 👍💪✌

So much aggregate on this poor grassy field. We should have dug down and not gone up... 🤣

What a difference that wacker plate makes!! It’s coming along great. Glad to see the poly tunnel update. Cutting the forks down was definitely the right move, it’s going to make a world of difference for you one more thing you might consider is adding some counter weight to the back side around where you stand.
@HomesteadingUncontained8 ай бұрын
Cheers Harry, just worried if I put too much weight on the rear it will stress the tracks even more. New tracks have arrived so will get them fitted.

Another week of great progress. Too bad about the mini skidder but I'm sure it will be back. Thanks for the update on the hens 🐔! Cheers from the USA ♥

You're making some nice progress. That mini-skid is pretty cool. Wish I had one 34 years ago when I built our house.

I know, before we had it, Julie would say, why do we need one...now it is a must have 🤣

You should maybe 23:18 add a counter weight to the ride on part at the back, 100k over the back would make a huge difference 🤔
@HomesteadingUncontained8 ай бұрын
I am just worried this may put too much stress on the motor and tracks, but it could do with some for sure.
@paulcanfi688 ай бұрын
I really think that 100 kilos or so would make a massive difference to the tipping point of the machine and I don't think it would hurt the machine 🤔

Hi Ian and Julie. I just watched this video and heard you mention a need to fabricate something to add to your small hydraulic bottle jack to help you lift the skid steer. Ian, draw something up with some dimensions and I will fabricate something for you. Most bottle jacks have a pad at the top of the ram that has a screw thread for added height / fine adjustment. Maybe we can use a bolt (or some threaded rod) to secure the attachment to the jack.
@HomesteadingUncontained8 ай бұрын
I basically ground out a groove in the top of the jack so the skid bracket would sit in it and not keep sliding off. Works OK but the bottle jack is still unstable on muddy ground. It is a very lower chassis hence the bottle jack and not a normal lift.

Absolutely great job to you both! Julie, the poly tunnel looks awesome! I can’t wait to see the progress! Ian, you are doing a great job on the driveway! That wacker plate is tough work any time! Keep it up, you are ROCKING it! 🤟🤟🤟

Cheers, yes that wacker plate could have done with being 500kg heavier and on wheels 🤣

Ian needs his play time toy too ( skid steer ) Julie your play time is in the poly tunnel, the driveway is looking good, i thought y'all were all over with building walls i guess not ? Oboy another fun build lol. Larry

We thought so too, but every time we look we think that needs tidying up with a quick wall. 🤣

Hi Ian and Julie from Michigan 👋👋, Ian I wonder if you took that upper plate you cut off of the forks and welded 2 small extentions on it ,with holes drilled into the extensions that you could pins and retainer rings on it and weld a small plate with corrusponding holes to put the pins in that you could mount under the fold down plate that you stand on, and use it as a counter balance if you were fork side heavy, you put add on weights to the plate and be alot more stable and even, and it would also provide a wider base to stand on if you needed, I know that description was very confusing but I can see it in my head ,just can't show you what I mean.basically it is a removable back counter weight /step .oh well I will shut up now 😂😂😂😂😂 great job as always you guys . Bye for now ✌👋👋Kevin

I know what you mean - I am just worried that too much weight may put stress on the rear wheels and tracks when turning, but I will try and find some counterweight option to try it. Thanks ☺️

Great work as always Ian and Julie! Love your planting in the tunnel Julie. I have a question - during the week i planted some lettuce like you in our tunnel and the next morning the slugs had eaten half of them. Do you have problems with slugs in your tunnel? And if so what do to deter them? Tunnel looks great though, looking forward to seeing it progress, Clare
@HomesteadingUncontained8 ай бұрын
Hi Clare - it is not Slugs here. I went to water the plants the next morning and some rodent (we call them Loir) had eaten all my lettuce. I am now at war with this little wide eyed creature.... google Loir Gris.

Ian, how about a slab of say 25mm plate the size of the standing platfom bolted on undeneath it to give a bit more counter weight. Ofc, first find a bit of plate at a reasonable price. Are scrapyards a thing in your parf of france?
@HomesteadingUncontained8 ай бұрын
Yes, we have a friendly scary down the road - I will take a trip to see what they have. That will mean I need to get a plasma cutter 🤣
@jayyambrovich37408 ай бұрын
@@HomesteadingUncontained An affordable plasma cutter probably not cut 1-inch (25mm) steel plate Cut would get ragged at about 5/8-inch (16mm), based on experience with my 50-amp plasma cutter

We bought a finca in Spain, I totally rebuilt it, I'm a builder so saved 10s of thousands, we pkan to do similar to you, so i bought a 2.5 ton digger from china, its been a nightmare so far, long story, but I'm 16k out of pocket so far and still got to pay import etc when it gets here, how was your import ??
@HomesteadingUncontained8 ай бұрын
That sucks - our import was easy enough with just the 20% VAT for the excavator. The Skid Steer was shipped duties paid to my door with out any more costs. We went for the smallest machine to allow for easier shipping etc. 2.5 ton will be a great machine once you get it.
