The big benefit of recording every drawing I do, is nearly all of my Polychromos work (and everything else) can be found on my Patreon. With a narrated tutorial and everything you need to draw along with me, it's a great resource to learn more about colour pencil art 😊 www.patreon.com/gemmachambersart

As soon as I saw the title, I thought of Scott Christian Sava 😅 I’ve heard so many people say they think the Polychromos are too hard and that there are either Prismacolor or Polychromos people. I love the Polychromos and generally Faber Castell. Sometimes I even feel like the Polychromos are too soft for me! 😅 I also love the open stock opportunity. I’ve got the 24 set and love adding that particular beige or a specific green to my set. Faber Castell to me just knows what an artist wants to make their art.

I agree with you about the layering effect you achieve with Polychromos pencils...it is totally an advantage. I think it widens the possibilities as opposed to waxier creamy pencils that mix together.

I totally agree about the advantage of open stock pencils, especially when you have a big expensive set, because I also use some colors much more than others. I have the 120 box and many of my favorite colors are only in this set, so it’s fundamental the possibility of buying them individually.

I’m so glad I found your videos. I was gifted some polychromos for my birthday but as a beginner I wasn’t sure how to use them properly. Thank you for the advice and tips!

Hi Gemma! Polys are my absolute fave pencils. My walnut looks like yours lol, . Layering instead of mushing just feels better when I color. If I want to burnish I use the ones from Derwent, they work well. tfs

Thank you for the video. I love my Polychromos too, they are my favorite. Sometimes I look for pencils that would be a close second to my Polychromos, just when I feel like a change. Is there such a thing? I found Lyra rembrandt polycolor pencils are close, but the sets have very similar colors.

Aren't these lightfastness ratings if kept under museum conditions?

Yes that's right. I normally mention this but should have made it clearer in this video!

Hello, I think I am quite hard-handed and because of the "hardness" they say Polychromos have, I am seriously thinking of trying them , so besides working on layering technique. Do you think they could work for me? Thank you!

Go for them, they are quite sturdy pencils. They hardly break, so they are a good option for people with a stronger grip. If you’re not sure, you can try the 12 pencil pack and build up your collection from there.
