Polyester Resins are the most widely used resins in the composites industry. Polyester Resins are less expensive, offer some corrosion resistance, and are more forgiving than epoxies. The majority of all fiberglass parts are constructed using Polyester Resins because they are easy to use, fast curing, and tolerant of temperature and catalyst extremes.
#77 Polyester Molding Resin is a wax-free, general purpose resin. This resin is a great choice for building low-cost molds, or for general part fabrication. #90 Isophthalic Polyester Resin is a durable, dimensionally stable, corrosion resistant resin. The 225°F service temperature and low shrinkage properties of this resin are ideal for making dimensionally stable molds or extremely durable parts.

very good viduo, what will the catalyst do to polyester resin?, so you mean that the styrene works as accelerator?, and if I put the laminate that is during curing, will this acceleate the curing process by giving more heat to laminate?thanks a lot for your viduos

Hi, first of all you are incredible,what you are doing with these videos is very helpful . Great work guys! My question is which type of resin has the best UV resistance? I need a transparent type of resin that will be used on a product that will be placed on the open, constantly exposed on weather conditions. And for the one with the best UV resistance i need data on how long before changing color, when it starts changing how it deteriorates and basically anything that can give me a clue on how long before it looses it's transparency or starts showing significant signs of wearing of. Thanks!

Thank you Aleksandar! Both our Polyester and Vinyester Resins are UV resistant, however they won't hold up forever as you well know. We do however recommend that you apply our #180 Clear Gel Coat and our Duratec Clear Hi-Gloss Gel Coat Additive for curing purposes and extra protection against the sun's UV rays. Applied properly this can stand up for years out in the open.

Hello Aiden. Unfortunately no. Our polyester resins are meant to be used in combination with a reinforcement fabric such as fiberglass or carbon fiber. The resin by itself can become brittle without the aid of a reinforcement fabric.

Can you use epoxy resin 2000 to cast molds? I am wanting to use it to make paperweight diamonds

I'm having a problem with bubbles using epoxy in a diamond mold. I've tried a torch and heat gun and it just seems to solidify the top because the diamond is slightly enclosed. I usually use it in woodworking applications and it works fine but for some reason I can't get it to work correctly in the mold.

Hello, We would recommend using one of our Urethane Casting resins in your mold, however we must stress that this will need a moisture free environment and handle to urethane casting resin carefully to avoid air bubbles. You can draw air out of the resin by using a pressure pot, but if you're not using one of our resins we recommend you contact the manufacturer for help. Thanks!
