In this video, I step out of my usual format to bring you something a bit different. In February 2024, I was given the unique opportunity to participate in the Russian TV show competition, «Удивительные люди» or “Amazing People,” scheduled for the following month, March 2024. As part of my participation, I was asked to create a video demonstrating my ability to switch between many of the 47 languages I have delved into over the years.
While I generally prefer the authenticity and fluidity of language use in conversational settings, this video represents a new challenge and a way to share my passion for languages with a broader audience. Here, I will be showcasing my skills in 34 different languages.
This endeavor is not just about displaying linguistic prowess but also about embracing the opportunity to connect with people across different cultures and languages on a platform as significant as “Amazing People.” It's a chance to celebrate the beauty of language and the bridges it can build between us all.
Join me in this unique linguistic journey, as I share with you a snippet of the preparation and dedication that goes into not just learning, but living through languages. This video serves as a prelude to my appearance on the show, and I hope it offers an insightful glimpse into the world of multilingualism.

Norse and Icelandic are the most alpha languages ever, definitely a must-know for every learner... Ég hef talað Ensku síðan þegar ég vas (var) tveggja eða triggja ára! En ég get líka talað Hollensku og Norsku og Spænsku og FornNorrænu! Ég get talað Íslensku reiprennandi og ég em (er) ekki með neina hreim! Ef ég gæti lært annað mál, hvað væri það? (These are some sentences in Icelandic / Norse / Dutch that I tend to revise a lot and analyze in detail - the words in these languages are just so pretty, they are áddìctive, and so poetic, I definitely wish I had learnt them in childhood!)

I highly recommend learning the prettiest languages ever created Norse / Icelandic / Dutch / English / Norwegian / Gothic / Faroese / Danish / Welsh / Breton / Cornish / Manx / Irish / Scottish Gaelic / Forn Svenska which are the most refined and most poetic and most heavenly languages ever that are way too pretty not to know, and I highly recommend learning them 2gether, as one can learn many pretty and easy languages at the same time, which is the most efficient and the most fun way to learn languages! I have over 50 target languages, and am upper intermediate level in Icelandic and Norse and German and upper advanced level in Dutch and advanced level in Norwegian and mid intermediate level in Swedish / Portuguese / French / Italian and intermediate level in Welsh and writer level in English and native speaker level in Spanish, and am learning 15+ languages at the moment, and am also learning Slovene and Hungarian and Gallo etc, and I have the pretty languages on my list of languages I want to learn and improve! By the way, I highly recommend listening to all the Skáld songs like Rún and Gleipnir and Óðínn and Trółł Kałła Mik and SæKonungar etc and the others and the folk songs in Icelandic and Faroese etc, which are the best introduction to Norse / Germanic / Nordic languages, as they have epic pretty melodies that perfectly fit these heavenly languages!

Amazing skills! Altough if I don't see the captions you started speaking hungarian I wouldn't have known you are started speaking it. It's my mother tongue and its realy a beautiful and also a hard language to master. It's very unique of a languge. As we (hungarians) are surrounded with slavs and germans I realy want to learn some as well. I have watched your "The FASTEST Way to Understand 19 SLAVIC Languages" video and its a good base to where I could start learning. I work in Austria so I'm learning german on the go, and there are a lot of 'auslanders' mostly slavs, and it's amazing for me how they all get along and mostly understand each others.

@FrozenMermaid666 korean is pretty language and its letter is considered as the easiest and the most scientific letter in the world. And the reason why you feel korean is impossibly complicated is because korean is totally different to your native. If you really studied many languages, you will know that the more similar languages are, the easier you learn

The Korean was very very thick and rough, a little hard to understand but still cool! (One example being that all of the past tense endings instead of 았/었어요 sounded like 어이세요 or something like this). 계속 화이팅하세요!

Tim, you're absolutely amazing person, it's impressive how not only you can speak these languages but you really talk like native (w przypadku języka polskiego słychać akcent ale to normalne, jednak zabrzmiałeś jak prawdziwy Polak, mówiąc o tym że kiedyś ludzie nie używali tyle telefonów i łatwiej było rozmawiać, co jest prawdą :) ). Also the history you've presented, I think it can be called really fulfilling, like that's really achievment to travel around the world and talk with many different people in their native languages. It’s because most of those languages aren’t pretty, so it’s not real fun to learn them well, but it is possible to get truly fluent in many pretty and easy languages, especially if each word is learnt automatically by seeing and hearing and revising each word over 30 to 100 times over a longer period of time and watching every video with subs in the target languages over the course of a few years, and learning over 35.000 base words in each target language - but it was nice to see gorgeous languages like Dutch and Norwegian and the other Germanic languages on the list, and also Hungarian and Slovene and Galician etc, and I highly recommend learning all the Norse languages!

I don’t know if it’s possible for me to fully develop an automatic mode in each of my target languages, but it’s okay if I don’t develop an automatic mode in most of the languages that aren’t officially recognized as a language yet, as my focus is mostly on the prettiest languages and also some of the other pretty languages, which are usually the standard version of the language! For example, I want to have a fully developed automatic mode in Norse / Icelandic / Dutch / Gothic / Norwegian / Faroese / Danish / Welsh / Breton / Cornish and also in Slovene and Hungarian and Forn Svenska, and I am sure it’s going to be easy for me to develop an automatic mode in Italian and Galician because I have a fully developed automatic mode in Spanish, as I learned Spanish in childhood in a one hundred percent passive way, and Italian and Galician are very similar to Spanish, and Catalan and Occitan too, so these languages are naturally very easy for me! I am writer level in English, so I don’t think my levels in other languages will be the same as my level in English, but still, I think it’s possible to get at least to a native speaker level in most of them when it comes to speaking, and to a writer level when it comes to understanding and knowing the actual words, because it’s actually easier to learn the languages and to understand the written language than it is to fully develop an automatic mode in the language when it comes to speaking fast and stuff like that, as developing an automatic mode in the new language or languages takes more years and more éxpòsure to the language and words!

As a native Polish speaker who can get by in English and German only plus your valid opening disclaimer considered, I think your pronunciation of Germanic languages stands out. Could it be that the Germanic origins of English (which it is after all) helps a lot here and certain sounds roll off the tongue easier for you as an American? Because that's how I've experienced Norwegian and Swedish speakers sound like, I mean just like you do. The Danish (which I've heard in Bornholm + tens of times of watching the Olsen Gang series which are dubbed over on Polish TV so the original dialogue is easily heard + casual Danes met while travelling) could use a niblet of a hot potato in your mouth, as other Scandinavians jokingly describe the sound of the lingo. That pronounciation of "kreatiewe taal" in Afrikaans was great. That is a hard sequence to pronounce for foreigners, I'd think. I know I can't. Your German seems to have some southern cling to it. I mean the south of the German-speaking area. I swear that upon hearing the „in der Schweiz studierte” part, Arnie’s image immediately popped up in my head. Also, I like what your Brazilian Portuguese and French sound like as it seems you've got their distinctive sounds mastered. I could not but laugh at the "managemento" in Japanese. Have the Japanese really not come up with a word of their own?

Thanks for the detailed comment. It is true that accent and prosody can vary greatly depending on the circumstances. It is true that I prefer the southern German accents and love Afrikaans.

The Japanese language does have a lot of modern English words as cognates.

I’m thinking about going to Russia but as a US citizen that uses visa American credit card I pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to use any American money digitally and I’m still uncertain if it’s safe for Americans to travel to Russia I know there are American African and Italia expats living currently in Russia, but now with Alexei Navalny death I’m doubtful more than ever my Russian friends both in the USA tell me not to go and my friends in Russia tell me it’s fine but of course my Ukrainian friends say absolutely don’t go Russia will never change. One of my friends is from Dagestan and he says it’s separate and safe from the Russian government what is your opinion on all this?

Missionaries from my church were in Kamchatka city Mogadon(?) starting a church and russ officials were seeking tax evasion charges. Missionaries decided to leave Russia.

Short answer from someone living in Moscow right now - as a tourist you'll be absolutely fine. Long answer. The political life in Russia right now is a nuclear waste and it's going to stay that way *at least* until the end of the war, and all Russians know this so there are no protest or anything like that. Aside from that everything is fine here, and you don't feel any oppression or whatever on the daily basis - you won't see the police dragging people away on the streets, etc. As a foreigner you can only have problems if you actually break the law, for example by bringing even the slightest amount of weed because the Russian airport police have zero tolerance policy for that. And if you do decide to come, don't do this in February-March, and in November - the weather is the worst these months. As far as the cards go - you can bring cash, create a debit card (Raiffeisen Bank would be the best choice for a foreigner) and just put your cash there - all top Russians banks have great easy to use apps with proper English translation. I wouldn't advise to listen to your Ukrainian friends on that matter because they currently have as much propaganda as Russia both on TV and on the internet if not more and just generally they obviously think that Russia is the worst right now. And your Dagestani friend is partially true in the sense that Dagestan is indeed pretty detached from Moscow both in a good and in a bad way but if you start a protest against the government there you will get arrested all the same, especially since Dagestan and Chechnya are one of the most pro-Putin regions of Russia, while Moscow and Saint P are the most liberal.
