I cannot stress enough how happy I am that you are holding on to your polyglot goals, not giving up, and keeping Polyglot Progress going even though your partner lost interest and left. Many would be polyglots get so caught up in the busyness of life that the desire, motivation, and determination to become a skilled master of many languages slip through their fingers and fade into the mists of time.

I'm happy to be here! It was definitely a struggle keeping up with it throughout university both because of workload and things in my personal life, but I was always hoping to return! Though the transition to having just one person running the channel was a bit daunting I definitely feel like I'm in the flow of it now and I'm glad you're enjoying it as well!

that's really motivating because i remember that when i started learning languages 2 years ago (thank for the greatest motivation to start learning my 3rd and 4th language, btw!) i tried to really do a copy-paste someone else's routine into my life and i remember it was so annoying that i wasn't making much progress but just getting frustrated and exhausted! finding a balance is so so important.. once we actually think about ourselves we can do amazing stuff. thank you for the video, A.! greetings from Poland

I definitely did the same thing previously! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and are having a good time learning 4 languages!

Great advices I think that "adjustment" is the keyword here We all have different preferences, what works for one person may not work for the other This is why it's important to try as many things as possible, and stick to the things that work best for us

I definitely agree! Trial and error can actually be so helpful, even if the "error" part sounds like it might mean the opposite.

There are three main learning styles, visual, auditory and kinesthetic (hands on). There are online tests to see which one applies best to you. Knowing your first and secondary learning style will help you decide which learning techniques work better for you. Auditory learners will get the most out of programs like Pimsleur, but may struggle with text books. Visual learners will get more from text books and see a program like Pimsleur slow and awful. However, both of those learning styles will benefit from both of those programs. Even though they may not like it, the other program will help strengthen the area of your target language where you are weak. Auditory learners may start off speaking their target language well, but the lack of grammar knowledge can stunt their learning growth and going through a text book can help with that even though it may feel like torture for an auditory learner. Visual learners may excel greatly in reading the language and gain written comprehension exceptionally fast, but may struggle with both listening and speaking. Even though programs like Pimsleur will feel painfully slow and unnecessary to them, they will benefit from how Pimsleur slows down the language and makes you speak the language. A visiual learner may feel like they are not learning anything at all from Pimsleur. That may be true, but little do they realize they are building muscles needed to speak the language by repeating along and they will slowly gain audible comprehension as well. Your learning styles can change over time and a good mixture of all of them is best. I cannot speak much to the kinesthetic learning style because I typically only see auditory or visual as a primary and kinesthetic as a secondary. I would assume proper shadowing technique would work well for the kinesthetic style or walking wile either reading or listening to Pimsleur depending on what your secondary style is.

Tracking what I do day to day has only shown me that my motivation seems to ebb and flow, I have it graphed and it's up and down then back up then down again over and over lol

Same here! I've definitely found as I track my learning and also as I document my learning in my monthly vlogs that I tend to go through cycles with my motivation and my confidence with my languages.

what is your daily study routine?
@PolyglotProgress3 жыл бұрын
I talk about it a bit more in depth in my 2021 goals video but the aim is 1 hour of set study in my current focus language (currently ASL or Bulgarian), at least 30 minutes of immersion in one of the language I'm maintining (so reading, watching something, having a conversation class in German/Spanish/French/Italian), and then spending just 10-15 minutes or so doing a little bit of vocabulary work through intensive reading or flashcards in German, Italian, or Spanish as I find vocab to be what keeps me from being able to say what I want the most. The hour of study is pretty consistent every day but I find the vocabulary study gets dropped if I'm super busy and the 30+ mins of immersion often ends up being much more or done in multiple languages instead of just one. So while that's the basis, it definitely changes a bit day to day based on what I'm doing and how I'm feeling :)

Fast? It's only personal preference... I'm watching at 1.25 speed and it's totally fine for me 👀 Try slowing videos down to 0.75, maybe that'll solve the problem :)

I think your videos would be even more helpful if you spoke a bit slower and a bit more articulated. Make short breaks between single arguments or points to help your message get through.
