Wonderful! I really like this design. Just a question, is the use of glue mandatory or is it possible to do it without?

Depending on what kind of paper you use, yes, it is possible to assemble this model without glue. In fact, I've made 2 without using any glue. You need to use thicker paper than origami that has rather rough surface; e.g. authentic Japanese chiyo-gami or washi. Good luck making one :)
