Polygon's POL Token Is Coming (Everything You Need To Know)

Wanted to clarify my view on POL being a catalyst. Typically here's how new token launches look: -Rise in price before launch -Dump on launch -Steady rise after over the following months and the big move up typically comes 2-4 months later. Right now with the market down it's possible we don't see a run up in price before the launch and even possible we still see a sell the news dump. So i'm not saying on Sept 4th price will skyrocket, that's not how these things work. It's the publicity thats valuable and that leads to mindshare and people taking a deeper look at the project. All that leads to price going up months after the event but rarely ever on launch day.

hey jesse. curious your opinion. I use coinbase and have a large amount of matic. they have both matic and pol but my matic hasn’t been transitioned it. if you look at the pol chart vs the matic chart it seems the matic chart is the real time price action and at the moment pol just displays the same price. take a look at it. wondering if i should convert matic to pol myself or just be patient

Personally I don't like the token replacement thing. I don't understand why it was necessary, and it adds uncertainty as to what will happen to people's WMATIC, MATIC on other chains, exchange balances, LP tokens, etc. Is liquidity going to dry up as we approach Sept 4th?

The token replacement is important from a technical standpoint, it isn't just a rebrand. I'm not sure how the transition will fully work or what it will look like, but hoping it goes smooth.

Me too. AggLayer sounds massive, especially if that becomes interoperable with the chains with real volume. I hate bridging, lol. Anything that reduces the amount of jank in the overall user experience sounds exciting to me.

Just to follow up on this as I just read on Polygon's website that for tokens held in smart contracts and LPs on the Polygon PoS chain, no action is required. It sounds like they may be keeping the same token address on their PoS chain and just changing the ticker symbol.

They broke the sacred fundamentals in tokenomics. Once the supply was 10B now they removed the cap with an inflationary supply of 2%. I had zero confidence with Matic now It's just a scammer trash token. I hope it goes to zero 🎉

It will automatically change. For instance I used coinbase to buy coins and then store them on exodus. I sent my matic months ago to exodus. When I sent some back to coinbase they turned into POLE

Great video, as always! I sold most of my $MATIC at $0.81 because I needed the liquidity. I hated having to do that. Now I'm happy I did and will be investing some of my 'safe bet' cash into $MATIC before the $POL switch. Not because of your video but all of this info certainly has made me feel a little more justified in my decision. I hope the Agglayer delivers a seamless UX so we can feel a real difference in the space. That would contribute to the rise of the $POL token, in my opinion.

Maybe I should clarify. Typically a new token launch looks like this: -Rise in price up to launch -Dump on launch -Steady rise after. We could possibly skip steps 1 and 2 due to the market state right now, but I expect a steady rise after over the following months.

Completely different. Cosmos has IBC which is a form of interop but as someone who's used it quite a bit it's insanely clunky and difficult for most to use. Basically has some huge UX issues but also fundamentally how these things work are very different as agglayer is built on zero knowledge proof's where IBC is something else entirely.

I don't see how this can work out when Chainlink already provides CCIP which is on my opinion superior solution. It seems like Polygon realized L2 space is gonna be super competitive and its falling behind, so it then came up with this new direction for the project... Today you can stake MATIC already. But yes the amount of POL tokens will be different from MATIC and inflationary. Good tokenomics though, should function well if the agglayer is successful.

What is with all the actually good questions in the comments right now. I love this question. So OP stack does want to build something similar but has quite a few hurdles to overcome. Their approach is likely to be some sort of shared sequencer. The big draw back of OP's plan is there are quite a few restrictions on how you can build your chain, and they have an ecosystem tax for anyone who joins. On top of just a lot of limitations to this approach vs using zk or even just optimistic rollups vs zk rollups. I agree so far this video hasn't aged well. Disagree Polygon is dead. Things I can say for certain: -AggLayer is genuinely great interop tech and their ZK team is top 1%. But so far the market doesn't seem to care. Time will tell, still holding but down bad on this position so far.
