When they say region free, he is referring to the neo CD that comes with the collection. That CD is region free and they are not wrong.

Polymega is nuts. The deluxe bundle with all the modules is like $1000. That doesn't even include the n64 module which, from what I've seen, which runs a lot of games very poorly.
@TectonicImprov2 ай бұрын
The theoretical market for the polymega (someone who wants to emulate old games through a dedicated machine AND wants to use their original carts/discs to do it) is such a narrow market to me I can only imagine that anyone who has one of those is a mark with way too much disposable income. If that's true these arcade collections will probably do pretty well for them lol
@toastrave78202 ай бұрын
@@TectonicImprov The only thing that would make it worth trying out in my opinion is if they made a module that can play Neo Geo AES, MVS, & CD games so that way it could function as an all in 1 Neo Geo for the fans.
@tyaustin61142 ай бұрын
@@TectonicImprovAs someone who falls into that small market, I bought the machine. I wanted a good hardware solution to play my Sega Saturn/CD RPG library and the original consoles are a pain to deal with. It’s nice to see my games get some use on modern physical hardware. That being said, it just rips the ISO off the disc, so the magic kinda wears off after the first time you insert the disc, lol. That being said, it’s done a good job emulating for the Saturn. It runs some games that I could never get going on other PC emulators.

Whether or not overlays like that are immersive or groundbreaking in 2024 (they're not) . . . I do love them. I always prefer to play with the overlay when I'm playing an emulated version of an arcade or a handheld game. I don't know why lol 😅 As for the Polymega collection, these first two releases don't really interest me (nice packaging though). However, since the Polymega's whole thing is archiving your physical games by inserting them in the console, I do like the idea of a way to physically release arcade games that otherwise couldn't have been inserted into the system. Hopefully they release some games that people actually want to own physically and that haven't been ported 900 times to other consoles.

I have both, Evercade and Polymega, but they are for different audiences. If you have an existing physical collection Polymega all the way, but if you are wanting to get into a physical collection without having one from the jump, Evercade is the answer.

@@toastrave7820 The newer Polymegas ship with a revised controller which feels good in hand and is responsive. It's not perfect, but gets the job done, definitely an above average controller. I have not encountered any issues using it with games in a 3D space.

An Atari Jaguar collection would be more interesting to me, if they added Atari Jaguar to Polymega. But I think any collection should have to work on the original consoles as well.

If it was a game I really like it'd be worth it. The idea is cool, something like this collecting all (or most) versions of Lode Runner is something I've wanted for a long time. But yes this is what the Evercade is for. Why not do rereleases of rare disc games? That fits in better with the Polymega's identity since its main selling point is emulation of disc based consoles.

When you have a bad emulator, which to be fair is like 99% of any collection of older games, the overlays/boarders introduce lag. The best way around this... is to turn them off.

The outrage Pat is displaying reminds me of the pointless outrage of Diablo fans when the mobile Diablo game was unveiled. I don't understand why he's getting so worked up about this. I saw Polymega's marketing for this and I understood what it was. The inlays are stupid, I don't care for them either and I agree that it isn't anything revolutionary, that's it. Why is Pat so outraged by this? This news only warranted about 3 minutes and they should've moved to something else.
