In this tutorial I'll show you how to create a hollow heart pendant. Each side of the pendant has a different pattern, one leaf and the other a honeycomb.
Although I use a mica shift mokume gane in this tutorial as the veneers, you can use any veneer you want for this tutorial. Check out some of my previous tutorials for ideas if you want to use a different veneer.
Also bare in mind that you don't have make it a heart shape. Experiment around with different shapes to create wonderful, unique pendants or earrings.

You could try non-symmetrical cutters by cutting the other side with the wrong side up. You have such wonderful projects, I have been trying out pretty much all of them!

Thank you for this tutorial. Great visuals to refresh Skinner blend techniques.As well, your videos are always kept in frame, and, where you do cut away, it is always for a reason which you explain...I am never left thinking that you have done something off camera which is vital to the result of the projects. Then, again, your projects are complete, from raw clay to finished item, including details such as what sanding grits you have used and WHY. So thank you once more for the hours and hours of painstaking detailed editing and work this involved, as well as a beautiful, inspiring piece of polymer clay jewelry.

They really need to start making cutters without that top edge so you can turn them over to get the mirror image. I make a lot of earrings and it's a big drawback.
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 3 жыл бұрын
I did try that when I first started making cutters, but there where a lot of issues. 1. You'd need a sharp edge on both sides of the cutter which would be very painful to push down against when cutting out pieces. 2. You could use an acrylic block to push down on the cutter instead of your hand to avoid the pain, but it would run the risk of breaking the cutting edge. 3. The cutters would be quite flimsy as they would need to be under a millimeter thick for the cutting edges to be sharp. That's how the print would work. This is why I make a lot of mirror cutters on my shop. So that you can have reverse pieces. Hope this cleared up your question.

@@JessamaTutorials hi! I love your videos. I barely ordered my first polymer clay. Can you do a tutorial on how this artist named Anarina Anar, she’s on Pinterest, on how and what technique she uses on her necklaces? They are very different. They’re bright yet old looking. Thank you!

Can I leave the cutter on to bake like I do with a bangle? Every time I try to remove it from cutter I misshapen it..do you think I'll have a hard time getting cutter off? Mine is more of a leaf shape. Fyi: this is my third attempt lol. Thank you so much for your super informative videos, I've learned a ton from you..xo
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 3 жыл бұрын
No. The cutter will melt. You could if you're using a metal cutter. Another method you could try is putting the cutter and clay in the freezer before removing it from the cutter. This will harden up the clay.

Beautifully! Thank you ! I know the purpose of this tutorial was not the veneer but the way to make a hollow pendant but I would like to ask about the veneer you made .. Why do you need metallic clay as you use the mokume gane technique and not the mica shift one ? And the colors that show in the result are the grey and the green, and only a few shadows of orange but you made a skinner blend with 3 colors appart from the green that will remain hidden.. couldn't you have only used a thick sheet of green and a thin sheet of dark grey ? Thank you for your answer. I wish you a very happy new new year dear Samantha.

I used the metallic because it has a nice shine and will also create a slight 3D effect once shaved and flattened.

When you were putting the two halves together with the Sculpey liquid clay, why would you bake it at Cernits recommended temperature?💜☃️
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 3 жыл бұрын
Because Cernit bakes a little lower temp (265F) than the Sculpey Liquid (275F-300F) and if she baked it at the higher Sculpey temp, she would risk scorching the clay. Luckily Sculpey Liquid bakes well enough at 265F that it will work well for this purpose. It just won't be as clear as it would be if it was baked hotter.
