The tip about smearing clay around the border was excellent! I think it's a technique most professionals don't share and then watchers wonder why their piece doesn't look as "finished" as the authors. Thank you so much for truly helping us do our best!!! Beautiful work!!! ❤️

@@rafsewnow She does put back in the oven. When you put your pieces many times back in the oven, it is nice to bake each time for around 15mins. So if you need to bake it 3 times, put them each of the three times in the oven for 15 mins. Hope it was clear.

Samantha, you are an excellent teacher: You are thorough without bogging us down with details, you explain HOW something works, not just that it works, and you have a kind, generous spirit that's reflected in your voice! You don't sound too formal or standoffish, neither do you talk down to us. I really love your teaching style. I've been a polymer clay artist, selling my jewelry for over 2 years now, and feel that we can all learn from one another. This is the first video of yours that I've watched, but be sure that it won't be the last. Thanks, Sharron

This is such a fun and exciting project. It's really lovely. I love so much about it - from the gold Premo!Accent base, the Adirondack ink ”skinner” blend with the alcohol dotting, the finishing of the black side with the course sandpaper, the different pebble molds and especially the resultantcmica frills (cool way to use those -very inspiring!)...down to the specifics on the size of the accu-flex wiring. I also appreciated the tips on where to buy the findings you used. All in all a perfect day on Jessama Tutorials for this beginner! I can't thank you enough!🕊

Excellent tutorial! A butane torch works well to get the bubbles out (breaks the surface tension). There are small hand drills that work well for holes. You have to go slowly, and like with the hand drill, allow the drill to do the work... don't push, guide! For small pieces like this, however, I agree that a hand drill is probably best. I LOVE that you put the materials at the beginning of the video! Then if we want to make this, or something similar, we know we can go back to the beginning to find what we may need! Just a tip, you could find these items on Amazon, make an instructor's or "Favorites" list where people can order all in 1 place, and you can get paid a percentage for the referral. I really like that your tutorial directions are very clear and that you explain why you are doing what you are doing in each step. An excellent video for beginners and advanced, as advanced people can skip ahead. If you aren't already teaching at a school or college, you should consider it as a career. You obviously put a lot of thought into your video! Well done! I subscribed and hope to see more of your videos!

Magnificent work and demonstration skills. When you are brushing out the stripes of alcohol ink to smooth them, this can be called "feathering". By removing these hard edges, you then have a better background for creating your alcohol ink circles. While it seems odd to some, to take such effort to smooth and even out the colors, its worth it for the later ink effects. Your details are very helpful. My only two cents to add: encourage viewers to open their alcohol ink bottles away from their precious work, so bits of dried ink don't get bound up in the clay.

I've watched a few of your videos now and they are excellent; I really appreciate the tips that you give - love the one about adding the black clay to the sides - I've been trying many things to finish my pieces and that will be my next one. Also, the hand drill that you use has a very fine bit - could you provide the name of the drill, the size of the bit. I've been looking around for something like that, preferably with interchangeable drill bits. I have one suggestion (not knowing anything about the difficulties/issues involved) could you include in your text below the video a list of the clays, tools, etc. that you use. thank you for sharing!!!!!

I bought the drill in South Africa so I'm not sure that's going to be helpful. Lol I found quite a few on ebay. It's interesting how what one person finds difficult another finds easier, and vice versa. I am a complete beginner with polymer clay, but I find 2 part resin so much easier to use than one part UV resins. I don't know if that has anything to do with being a chemist and not being at all intimidated by having to mix chemicals or if it's just because I'm weird. I find that the one part resins pull away from the edge so much that it takes multiple applications to cover a piece. If you're doing a lot of pieces at once, the multiple applications can be quite time consuming. I have found that certain resins pull away worse than others. Is it just me that has this problem with UV resins? Am I doing something wrong? I have used the edge smearing technique to join two already baked halves that are the same color, but have never tried it with one baked and one raw. I bet it's so much easier the way you do it!

Thank you Jessica for another wonderful tutorial. I noted that you did not use Bake and Bond for attaching the back to your baked top. I thought thus was a needed step to ensure that the two pieces would firmly stick together. Can you comment, please.
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 5 жыл бұрын
Bake and bond can add extra strength, but I find that it sometimes causes the clay to slip around and can be quite hard to work with.

These are absolutely beautiful. I'm going to try this with silver and use blues, purples and ??? Red? I've drilled my finger a couple times. Hurt like a curse word. 🤬 LoL 😂

I really enjoyed this and the gorgeous finished necklace. I do have one question, when you and and bake the back of the bead and then take a bit of the black clay that you smooth around the beads, do you bake the piece again? Did I miss that part on the video? Thank you much for sharing your knowledge with us!

Thank you. :D Yes. I do always bake after smearing. If you're having trouble getting that part of the tutorial right I do have a tutorial with a bunch of tips on the technique. www.jessamatutorials.com/jessama-smear.html

I have learned so much from you. As a beginner, I have been intimidated by many processes but you have given me confidence to try your techniques with great success. I have a question on the finishing. You smeared the black clay around the edges and created a beautiful finish...did you bake it after that, before you did the resin? I might have missed something. Thank you Samantha and I love your birds in the background.

Yes I do bake it for half an hour after that. Sorry I might have forgotten to mention that.

Thanks for asking. I was about to ask the same thing, but thought I'd check here first to see if it was already asked. Great tutorial, Samantha. Keep them coming! :-)

Hi Jessama, It is very beautiful and very clear instructions. Thanks a lot for doing these videos. I've a question, after applying black soft clay in the corners for finishing, how it's dried? Don't we need to bake again? Please help me to understand.

I use Adirondack Alcohol Inks. Pinata Alcohol Inks would work for this technique too.
