I love these ideas and I save my packing tape cardboard rings because I have larger hands and the would make great bangles..I thought about covering the in and outside of one with the clay to make a bracelet. I make jewelry and work with all types of wire and make all of my own components but wanted to make my own beads and add more flair, that is why I am getting into the clay now..Thanks so much for your videos! I tried baking a piece on the bottom of a pop can and it was so difficult to remove it after cooling. It was stuck so badly, as if I glued it that I ended up scratching it with all the tools I used to pry it off. When it finally popped off it went under my chair and as I put my foot down to look for it I stepped on it and "crack"! 🤦🏼♀️😔 Any advice on how to prevent sticking? Should I spray the can with a cooking spray? Thanks ahead for this and all you do. I'm learning so much. I'm hoping to become a patron soon as I know you have such a wealth of knowledge I can benefit from and you really deserve it.
@PolymerClayTutor Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! Hmmm, I haven't had that happen, but perhaps there was a coating of some sort on the can that the clay stuck to? What I would do is put some cornstarch on the back of your piece before putting the clay on the can. Cornstarch works beautifully to keep clay from sticking. Also, it sounds like the clay was under baked, since it snapped when you stepped on it. Clay is quite flexible when properly cured and should have just bent, and popped back when you stepped on it. Make sure to watch all my baking videos to learn about good quality clays to use and how to cure them so they are strong. This is especially important when making jewelry. Good luck! Also I am doing a LIVE Q&A Broadcast every Wednesday at 12:00 Noon Pacific time on our Facebook Page. Join us sometime! facebook.com/polymerclay

Wow! The soda can bottoms are genius! Any tips on how to cut them, or avoiding sharp edges? Also, you can stabilize/level your forms and what not with rock salt, rice or beans. They can take the heat (you might have to replace them after a bake or two) and will keep your more unstable forms from rolling around.

Goddess of Unique Verse hi, thank you for your help 😊😉 I have actually heard of it but never tried it because there might be many other ways that can be better.. so I am not sure 🤔 but I will give it a go 😉 once again thank you!!
@Dwinabeana7 жыл бұрын
I think it's really the best way unless you want to bake something and flatten the bottom edge then bond & bake and apply more clay and bake it again with that side up - which I sometimes do. But if it's a one 'n done it's best to nestle it into something soft which will hold it up from flattening out.
@user-fc3sx2cw5x7 жыл бұрын
Goddess of Unique Verse If it's the best way then I must do it this way 😉 both ways sound great and useful actually. Again thank you so much for helping me out ❤️❤️

Hi Cindy, I am having a hard time with my bracelets breaking after baking. I have the right temp. With a thermometer. For a cuff bracelet I bake 30 to 45 minutes at 275*. I am using premo and kato. I have had 6 or so to break. Thanks.

jillmayo are you sure your oven is calibrated correctly ie 275 on the dial is actually 275 in the oven. Test with an oven thermometer. If it is correct temperature try baking for an hour.

I'm new to your KZbin, I have a specific thing I want to make and it will need to be curved. I want to make a masquerade mask. I have one in hard thick plastic. I want to apply clay on the mask for a decorative craft. This plastic has the ability to withstand the approx 300 degree temp. So I wanted to know how to be sure that the clay doesn't adhere to the plastic. Also, which clay is the lightest in weight, but is still durable enough to withstand teenagers. Tia

Hi, how do I get acrylic paint to not chip off of my clay?
@KalyanaDesignTutorials7 жыл бұрын
That thing is not for eggs. In Europe it's called "plat escargot" It's for snails, so they can bake evenly. You put them in with the shell aperture up. There is also dinnerware shaped like that for serving snails in shell. Just do a google search with "plat escargot" as keywords.

Knotty But Crafty can you place your knob between 270 & 280? it could be it just isn't marked. you can use an oven thermometer to see if it's at 275 there. if so then you will know where your 5s are. :)

no its not a knob its a button that you push the temp up and down so it only does it in 10 not 5 its a pain but I will look again ty but no it don't I just look only goes up and down in 10 if I go 280 I try not to bake so long if I go 270 I go alittle longer

My grandmother had one. It's used for pouching eggs. You place it copper side down into a pot of water. Crack egg into dips and when the water heats it cooks the eggs. Some of them actually float in the pot of water. Back in the day eggs were sized differently. So think of using "small" eggs for it. : The tape you used to hold the paper onto the cut up roll is what kind? I thought it might be "scotch" type. It won't melt or catch fire in oven????

when baking on a form, will clay relax and follow form in the oven? My clay doesn't want to stick to pop can.
@PolymerClayTutor4 жыл бұрын
It kind of depends on the brand. Some clays slump a little in the oven and some do not. If you are trying to shape a piece over a pop can and it won't stick, see if you can warm it up in your hands first and try and stretch it a bit with your fingers before laying on the pop can (I am assuming you're trying to place it on the domed bottom of a pop can that has been cut off the bottom of the can.) If you are referring to something else, let me know.
@lisajackson16504 жыл бұрын
@@PolymerClayTutor Thank you. And yes, bottom of pop can. I used premo and baked. It did "relax" in the oven, which is what I had hoped for. That is the only clay I have ever used.
