Part of my family is Chechen and we have no love lost for the Soviets, or the current Russian government. But relatives fought in the 40s when everyone’s back was against the wall, Russians included. For a brief yet powerful moment, we were united in the fight for our freedom. Everyone fought, bled, died together. Kazakhs, Chechens, Uzbeks, Siberians, Tatars, Ingush, Belarusians, it was all one flag and one struggle.
