While the first album represented the angst of being young and the struggles you face when you are, I feel like this album portrays an older, more mature sadness. and I think that's cool

Honestly, I'm writing this based on mere sentiment. I played this album on my best friends funeral. He died this month at the age of 22 and every note echoed in the hall with his coffin and gently embraced each and every persons heart in that room. This was the last thing I listened to with him. It hurts to hear these songs knowing we will never recite all the lyrics and sing in unison ever again. I want to thank American Football for making such relatable music that can and will always heal. As for every one out there reading this, cherish your loved ones, friends and family and go tell the closest person to you that you love them. EDIT 2021.04: Hey, it's been a few years. I'm doing well for myself and everybody seems to be able to live their lives normally again. I recall people being thankful for playing this album during the funeral since it helped to ease the atmosphere. To be clear the album was playing during the ceremony when the coffin was still being exhibited for visitors to give their final goodbyes. There was an old audio system which played CD's and had a mellow tune going. The disc with the album was a birthday gift and it was put near his picture in the hall as one of his last mementos. I just could not handle the depressing tune and switched out that CD for Amercan Footbal LP2. Keep going guys.

I listened to this album for the first time today, after coming across American Football on a random playlist. It's the first time I have cried since my dad died three years ago. It is the first time I have thought about relationships properly in a long time. When you are in your 20s it's so easy to get caught up in a traps of hedonism, materialism and escapism; I chose the easy relationships that didn't go anywhere, I chose buying shit to fill the void left by my well paid but soulless finance job, I chose moving to Hong Kong for the high salary and low taxes. I spend my days watching the markets and dreaming of early retirement in a decade or so. I bought a flat in my hometown with the money my dead father left me but instead of living in it I just rent it out and didn't even choose the furniture myself. I haven't messaged my mum or siblings in weeks because I just don't know what to say anymore. I need to totally change my life and career.

Oh my god, I've been listening to American Football for ten years, singing along, cried to the songs on my bed, gotten so depressed I couldn't sleep with their first LP and Minus The Bear's They Make Beer Commercials Like This playing in the background, and I had no clue these guys had put out a second album. And it's beautiful. It's different from the original album, but then again, 17 years have passed. We've all grown up. I can still hear the continuity between the two, but whereas the first album was lying in the grass looking at the clouds with the girl who would leave you six months later, this one is waking up with your wife/boyfriend in your house and wondering where the time has gone, thinking on all that's happened. Musing on people you've lost, etc. I'm just so happy they're back.

It would be interesting to be able to watch it rain on my house and listen to this music, like if you had cameras cinematically positioned to show your house as it snows or rains, I'd really enjoy that while listening to stuff like this.
